Tyre wear on the rear is about 1-1.5mm per 1000 miles. I had 3.5 -3.8mm when did leave home for the trip. So a 2500 mile trip, should’ve seen me with enough tread left to be legal. Unfortunately due to tyre wearing away much quicker than I anticipated (caused by heat whilst riding at high speed) I sustained a puncture a couple of days before arriving home. The puncture was caused by a small stone fragment whilst I was waiting in the queue for fuel.
Bellow you can see the outline of the tyre cord structure. This tyre was left at the Yamaha dealer in Rennes.

I have booked new tyres in when I arrive in NL which will be around 2000 miles later + the stretches of autobahn, so I'm hoping I can get there lol... how did u get it back did u extend your holiday? or did they have time & tyres?

Got back on time, luckily Rennes had a good choice of motorcycle dealers.
The puncture happened at lunchtime in a Saturday, about 100 miles away from Rennes, so we plugged it (twice) and more or less nursed it all the way to Rennes.
A bit of tail chasing, first place had the tyre (Michelin Anakee 3) but I rejected it as the only option and went looking for preferably continental Road Attack 3, but wasn’t lucky. Plenty of choices in sports bike sizes, but not ADV. KTM declarer weirdly did not have any tyres in stock at all and instead sent me to their sister company shop, where they did not have a tyre either. Luckily knowing that both 1200-1250 GS/A and Ducati Multistrada take same size tyre as my 1290 SAS. I persuaded the guy to call both BMW (who did not answer) and Ducati dealers. At the end Ducati had a Pirelli Scorpion 2 tyre, which is what my 1290 came shod with from the factory.
Prior to this, I’ve arranged a Yamaha dealer to fit the tyre for me, should I find one by 5pm. So I came back to them with the Pirelli strapped to the back seat at 16:58, phew.
