Hi, apologies in advance for the tyre post...

I am new to GS es and about to pick up a new 1250 GS/A next week. Got a great deal on a nearly new GSA after test riding the 1300 and the 1250 GSA

It comes stock with Bridgestone Battlax A41 as a 90/10 tyre and I have read some horror stories on here about their wet weather tarmac performance?

As we know - it has not stopped raining here since last October and one of the reasons for buying the GS is the weather protection so I can extend the riding season.

I am looking for a tyre that is nearer 70/30 or 80/20 and suits those conditions - ie does well on wet tarmac and can handle some gravel roads and light offroad well (i have other dirt bikes for proper offroad but would like to explore)

I have read the Trailmax mission thread and I think they may be too heavy, too dirt oriented and most importantly questionable in the wet on tarmac for what i am looking for

Any suggestions?

yeah, I am happy to do that - the dealer has indicated they will swap them out for me at just differential cost so I just wanted to know if there were a 'gold standard' tyre for UK conditions that is generally considered the best?

Ok fair enough. I didn't have any problems with the A41s on my 2020 1250GS but I'm towards the miss Daisy end of the riding spectrum and can't give any 1st hand experience of other tyres apart from the Anakee's which were bloody noisy. I think CTA3's are well thought of but no doubt the sages on here will offer their help. Hope you enjoy your new GSA, You're not alone in choosing that over the 1300.

Tyres are a fairly subjective topic.
Said that, TKC70 (standard ones) are excellent for the type of use you want.

They behave well on the road at faster pace and provide good grip when offroad up to relatively dry surfaces.
No issues on wet tarmac.

Given the non-abundance (to be gentle) of proper tight corners in the UK, the slightly more "neutral" profile of the 70ies is not an issue.

Thanks all. I will look at the 70s. I had Scorpion Rally STR on my Desert X and really liked those so i may see if they are available as well.

I really like the Michelin Anakee Adventures that came with mine. Obvious choice I really like them both on and off road and have used sports touring tyres on my previous GSs

Fabulous tyres . Prefer them to Conti TA3s

Another one for the Conti Trail Attack 3s

Way better than the very noisy Anakee Adventures fitted as standard

Another valuable option.
I haven't used them (yet), but I think they line up with the TKC70 'Rocks' variation.
I've had a set of Rocks, sadly didn't use it off tarmac enough as intented and finished the rear fairly quickly, compared to the standard ones.

I've not used CTA3s but in research they came up over and over, I did have experience of Mitas 07's on my AT and IMHO they were superb with actual off road (not proper mud) ability rather than some nominal 90/10, 80/20 BS but still remarkably confident on tarmac.

Michelin road 6

CTA3's all day long. Great grip whether it's wet, dry, cold, hot etc etc. They warm up quickly, and the big grooves are very capable in moving water and giving you plenty of grip and feedback.

Whilst the tread pattern may not look as wet weather orientated as a Michelin Road 6, it is a highly capable tyre in wet conditions.

Can you use Road 6s on gravel or light hard pack etc? I’ve got them on a new bike but not ventured off the black stuff

I have a set of Bridgestone AT41's waiting for when I've finished off the set of A41's that mine has had on since new. I think they are an 80/20 tyre.
I'm not a massive fan of the A41's, wet or dry, which is strange coz I've fit them before on my 1200gs andcthought they were brill in the Picos. Makes me wonder if the oem tyres are different to the aftermarket A41's.
In my mind the more grooves you have to shift water and shite out of the way the better. We'll see, and I'll report when i have them on the Gsa.

Stu

I fitted Dunlop Mutants just before christmas and have been very happy with their wet weather performance - they "look" like an OR choice.Apart from a little gravel and grass I have no real OR experience on these to offer.

If you want a tire that is good for tarmac And gravel you end up with a tire that is good for nothing 🤣I dont ride dirt but if you want a tire that is very good on dry and wet pavement I recommend the new Metzeler Tourance Next 2 👍 Enjoy your new 1250 ADV…Still a very good bike and BMW will have their work cut out to really make it better!
