Tyre pressure not reading in both tyres!

Just got back from BMW. And have been told that the main unit that takes the info from the tyre sensors maybe faulty? Has anyone else had the main unit go down?

A bit freaky when warning light comes on, speeding down motorway!!!!
 
Unlikely, it's more likely to be the TPM's in the wheel. I have had both go at different times - both replaced under warranty 18 and 16 months ago - still OK.
 
Noticed mine was only reading the front yesterday. Presumed it was just having a Bavarian brain fart and would sort itself out - will check again today now I've read this...
 
With both of my failures, they went intermittent first before total failure. If your bike is in warranty I suggest you get the problem logged and have your dealer check it out.

No its not under warranty! Its strange that they both went at the same time?

The rear one was not register pressure properly for a while or shall we say it took some time to log the info on the display.
So if one goes does the receiver just shut down.
 
I would guess the receiver just sits there waiting for a signal. Are you getting the warning triangle come up on the dash when the TPM's register as ---? I had different types of failure, sometimes they just would never register after moving off (with no warning triangle) and at other times they would work and then give up the ghost while I was riding (with warning triangle). Sometimes they came back, sometimes they did'nt. The dealer kept resetting the computer when I reported it but it wasn't until I had total failure that they replaced them. I had the front changed first then the rear packed up two months later.

The receiver has never been touched as far as I am aware, but I don't know where it is anyway - I'm assuming its in the instrument cluster but could be wrong.

They are going to try a main unit first, and see if that solves the problem? If thats not the problem then, i guess both tyres sensors!

Does anyone know where the main unit is?

batery down

There anybody check un the transmiter batery? the transmiter in the tire has a batery to transmit to the computer.
I guees that can be the problem, I have not that but I hear about.

I don't believe you can replace the batteries in the TPM's - I think they are sealed from looking at them. I have heard a ten year life for them but since they only operate when the bike is moving this must be mileage dependant as well.

My bike is a 2007 and with 18.000 miles i would hope they would have lasted longer? Well what ever happens i have been told i have to bring it in to be set with maybe the new receiver or new TRMs.....money!!!

£60 per trm and £114 for the receiver!
 
When dealer fitted my alarm, it meant removing tyre monitor box and fitting new box which does both alarm and tyre pressure. He then had to use a special gadget to pair the tyre units to the box. Maybe re-pairing worth try? Have you put slime in tyres? Bin
