Tyre pressure sensor still flashing after puncture

Got a very slow rear tyre puncture yesterday. Nail in the middle of the pilot road 4. Again. Today i fixed it with rats tail and inflated via compressor. Feels rock hard. No spit leaks showing. But the tps now shows 0.0 bar on rear and keeps flashing. Put more air in and no dice. Ideas? What have I missed? Coincidence that a battery could fail...

Been round the block about a mile. stopped and started again after adding more air. Still flashing. Will see what happens tomorrow on the commute. I know there is air..
 
Use a proper pencil pressure gauge tonight and in the morning, if the figures are the same - good to go

If not, it'll need a proper repair

Oh and btw.................ignore that TPS flashing, if the pressure is stable the sensor is incorrect

Go back to basics
 
unlikely, Never touched bar screwing the compressor thing on which has been done before. I am far heavier handed with the normal air hose! I ll ride it again tomorrow and see what happens. Just thought there might be a trick I am missing..
 
If the TPS battery dies the reading will be ---- not 0.

It won't transmit anything...

Just a thought... you haven't got ultra seal or similar in the tyre have you?

Have seen that clog up a sensor before...

Nought inside. Traditional puncture repair. Will post back after today's commuter

Ok. No change after a 13 mile commute. Next step is to deflate. Re inflate at a garage to correct pressure. My own little trouble shooting...

If you have access to a GS-911 type device I think you can delete the pairing with the malfunctioning sensor, which will (I think) at least get rid of the warning while you sort out getting a new sensor fitted. I don't think they are repairable.

[edit: Rather too much "thinking" going on in that message...]
 
The TPS battery can be changed. It's possible to get 2032 batteries complete with solder tags.

Google BMW RDC battery or BMW TPS battery and you will find "how to" threads and all sorts

Basically remove the TPS from wheel rim.
Dig out the potting compound to expose the battery. Don't try to take it all out as there are electronics in there.
Snip the battery tags & remove old battery
Solder snipped TPS tags to new battery
Repot the battery with acid free silicone.
Job done.

That's replacing the battery. The OP's sensor appears to be buggered although the battery is working normally (hence the display showing 0 rather than --, and the low pressure warning).
 
Thanks Angus. Will try this on the weekend. I agree I don't think it's battery related. Was working on the day and was fairly reliable until the deflate., repair, inflate. I almost think I had something similar happen before but can't quite remember. Battery sounds about right

If you decide to delete the TPS pairing using a GS911, be sure to note down the TPS sensor ID shown by the GS911 device first. Trying to re-initialise the TPS sensor without the BMW wake up tool by the deflate/inflate method is near impossible. You would need the sensor ID code to manually re-pair the sensor if all else fails.

Mine sometimes shows --- Other times, it shows less than the pressure actually in the tyre. So in my case the low (if not flat) TPS battery is causing some strange displays.
 
Disconnecting battery did not work. Same ridiculous display. 0.0 ( or not)..the search continues
