How accurate are they ?

I have three different gauges all of them allegedly accurate and calibrated but i am fecked if any of them match the tyre pressure display on the NAV 5

I have to resort to a bit of guess work to get them close !
 
I believe that they are designed by Schrader in Nothern Ireland, I went on a course in Oxford with one of the designers a couple of years a go, I will do some research and see if I can find out more.
 
Mine are bang on exactly with our calibrated gauges at work. And the calibrated pressure gauge we use I recently asked to be tested for accuracy and it was found to also be spot on.
 
so one is looking at +/- 2.1 psi at rear tyre pressure of 42psi, with 5% accuracy

Easy solution, number one:

Discard two of the three. It will reduce the guess work by 2/3 and maybe your worries by more.
 
There's quite a lengthy explanation about this in the handbook, if i recall correctly.
Yes the manual does go into it in detail but i suppose what i am asking here is do i go by my gauges (perm one from 3) or the TPS ?

Surely the point of the TPS is not to give an accurate reading, manual testing will always be better, but to give indication that there is a problem, i.e. the tyre is deflating due to a puncture etc. Anyway that's how I use mine. I always check with a manual gauge before a ride as the TPS doesn't work until your moving!
 
Does anybody know if the system can be disabled in the ECU or wherever it is?
I have fitted new wheels to my bike and whilst they will accept the sensors I couldn't really be arsed with hassle of removing tyres wheels etc and changing them over.

Apparently YES so I was told, dealer has to disable em by reverting the clocks back to factory set up and then re-program without tps function.

However I'm sure if you go into the settings you maybe able to turn them off yourself in the same way if your running off rd tyre pressures you can disable tps.

If you believe the +/-5% accuracy of the Schrader system - I have no reason to disbelieve it then I'd go by that - unless you have a tyre pressure gauge that quotes a higher accuracy and has been recently calibrated and has a certificate that is traceable all the way back to the National Physical Laboratory or whatever it is called these days.

P.S.
As Schrader are OEM suppliers to most of the major automotive manufacturers they have a massive incentive to make a trustworthy product.
 
My sensors read about 2psi less than the petrol station pump i used. I guess the bike sensors should be more accurate than the petrol station?? Did 36F and 42R and the TPS says 34.5 and 39.8 psi.....
 
Remember they are also temperature compensated - read the manual
