Just been wondering about tyre pressures on my new trusty steed. The handbook has all different kinds of pressures for different loads and carrying a pillion etc...... As far as I can make out its 2.2 - 2.5 in the front and 2.5 - 2.9 in the rear. As I work better in PSi for me I've rounded it up to 32 - 36 front and 37 - 42 in the rear. I don't want to be faffing around with tyre pressures every 5 minute due to my ever changing ride loads and pillion carrying so is their a good compromise for front and rear which won't damage the tyres and give good handling? If so it would be nice to know what the pressures would be in a cold tyre as it’s my weekly check on a Sunday morning along with SWMBO's Hornet.

Thanks

Tony :)

You need to check with the tyre manuafacturers, they normally only quote one pressure for all use
conti states 32f 36r

Just rung the dealership - they told me 2.5 bar (36psi) front and 2.9 bar (42 psi) rear.

About right Tony, as to manufacturers recommendations well did that once on my Tourances front way too hard, so now i stick to 36/42.

I also ride with pillion most of the time plus panniers and all seems about right, one thing i have noticed though is, the adventure does seem to be harder on the rear tyre than the previous GS12.

36/42 if loaded with anything (pillion, panniers)
33/38 if solo.

Works for me, but I tend to keep them at 36/42 'cos I can't be arsed to change them all the time. :)

I think I'll keep to 36/42, makes sence as "Her in doors" Hornet is the same.

Thanks:thumb2

I leave mine at 36/42 for everything as it's too much hassle to keep changing.

Last set of Tourances did 14500 so it can't be doing the tyres any harm and the bike handles OK.

Metzeler quote 36/42 on their website for solo use for the Tourance EXP, as do Avon and Bridgestone. Michelin say 32/36 for the Anakee. According to Avon rep at show, different tyre constructions dictate what pressures, and I've noticed latest tyres launched seem to all use 36/42 - think I've spotted a trend!
