Tyre seal - use it or not?

AS recommended by the BMW owners club - or so it says on the tin.

Would anyone recommend this as my past expierience in my gsx1400 cost me a new tyre and loads of grief but then again the 1400 is a lot quicker than the 1150gsa.

Would anyone recommend using it please or leave well alone..

No I wouldn't

I use a Tyre Plugger to get me to the shop and Buy a new Tyre. I want Risk Dodgey Tyres!! My life is worth more than that.
Sealer in a can makes a hell of a mess on your Rim. Put the Plug in and Pump it ut up. Simple. If its too big to Plug what can you do anyway?
I have actually screwed Self Tapper Screws in and road to help. It works.

I've been using Ultraseal for the past four years, tyres seem to last longer ? and when having a run up into the borders I manages to pick up 6 large hawthorn spikes all of which pierced the entire tyre. Non caused any deflation of the tyre due to the sealant and saved me a load of grief. I would recommend it although others may say different.
That said I check my tyres every time before using the bike so would pick up any damage rather than running a damaged tyre for any period of time.

After puncturing a rear in Wales a few years ago in an area where there was no land lines and no mobile coverage, I always use ultraseal just in case. £17.50 off flea bay for piece of mind, longer lasting tyres and no more fart arseing around with plugs on the side of the road.
Fit it !!!

Not had any personal experience with it but on a trip to Normandy in April my mate had put some in both tyres.. 1200ADV and he developed bad vibes through the steering at 80mph +.

We found a bike dealers and he had both tyres removed and the gook cleaned out.

No vibes after that

Personally I would not use it.

I have used ultraseal for many years across a range of bikes, has saved me from being stranded on a good few occassions, very useful when collecting a puncture in the middle of nowhere.

If you put the amount stated in the instructions you should not suffer from unbalanced wheels.

The Ultraseal sticks to the inside of the tyre, not the wheel rims and I have never had a tyre fitter complain about its use. I do as a matter of courtesy warn the fitter about the Ultraseal before he takes the old tyre off.

Highly recommended, does exactly what it says on the tin.

Isn't it strange, those who use it say that it has saved them many times, those of us who don't use it have never had a puncture. Perhaps it attracts, nails etc.

I've used it for around 7 years. It saved my arse on one occasion, when a piece of glass cut into my rear tyre causeing a 2 inch split. First thing I knew about it was when I entered a round about (large one) at 60mph and the back felt a little loose. I pulled over to see the ultraseal being forced out of the split. God knows what would have happened if there was no ultraseal in there to let the pressure out slowly.
And I still managed to limp the bike home another 5 miles

Sorry Gsx thought you meant that puncture repair in a can After a Puncture.
I repaired a puncture with that lovely gue and had to peel it all off the Rim before a New Tyre? Yuck! Sorry BIGJim . Had A Birthday must be Thicker!!

Put Ultraseal in my TKCs before going off to Morocco. If I had a puncture I didn't spot it, however, what I did notice was how much further the rear has gone compared to a trip I did to Portugal without Ultraseal last year.

It seems that their claim about it stopping the tyre getting too hot on fast motorways or when you're giving it some beans and then wearing quickly might hold water.

I've not had any vibration problems and will be putting it in my new tyres when these are worn out.

I've never tried to plug a tyre that's already been Ultrasealed, but I would expect it's not possible as the adhesive would have nothing to bind to.

I use a Tyre plugger kit which uses oil to lubricate the plug as it's forced in. Uses no glue so would work with a tyre sealer.

In fact i had just fitted one to Rick's bike a couple of hours before we saw you on the piste.

Agree 100%. Saved me from a nasty blow out at 80ish on the M3 - just a little wobble and I pulled over. Also, adds to tyre life. Recommended by me too.

I don't use the stuff.

I've had punctures in tyres, loaded and at speed, and all the bike does is wobble anyway, gone are the days of tyres coming off rims ( unless you try and change direction fast).

In the LeJog run we did couple weeks ago, with my old (repaired with 5 plugs tyre ), i intentionally rode 10 miles at 70 to a service station completly flat with no problems.

In morocco once, and out of nine bikes the only one to get a puncture ( twice) was the bike with ultraseal, and it deflated both times

i have also had it in my RT and have now put it in the GS wouldn't go anywhere without it as it does what it says on the tin and also have fixed my sons car that had a screw in the front tyre put the ultraseal in took the screw out got him to drive round the block and hey presto fixed did the other tyre as well so it would not be out of balance

What I find interesting is that not one single major tyre manufacturer will cover any warranty claim if the tyre has had that stuff in it..

I cannot speak at all about putting it in a GS but on blackbirds it is a total killer.. You can litterally out accelerate it and the the wheels can get so out of balance the bike almost pogo sticks down the road,, that is NOT fun !!
I do appreciate the GS is a tad slower than the XX's but even so I think it is not for me... I carry a puncture plug kit on all my bikes and even in the Smarty,, never had a problem using it.

Oh and here is an interesting bit of info.. You know where it says 'tested to 150mph' ? Have you ever looked for the results of the tests ??
Bet you cannot find them.. reason being the stuff FAILED every indipendent test done.. Of course the makers do not have to ssay that.. they are merely reporting the fact it was tested....

What would have happened is that you would have known you had a puncture and would not have attempted to get round a roundabout at 60 mph with a semi-inflated tyre !

Put some cheap (£5) moutain bike stuff in my tubed airhead... only using the amount for aan MTB tyre.

Just changed the tyre and found a thorn as tougfh as a small nail...

Horses for courses IMHO.

I used Ultraseal in my FJR and got vibration through the steering at 110mph (in Germany of course ). Flushed it out a day later and no problems.

Have since put it in my GS and not experienced any problems whatsover. As a precaution I always carry a tyre plugger kit "just in case" but never had a puncture or problem yet.
