I had my 6500 mile service this morning (a very reasonable £65 + an oil change voucher I pre-purchased.) One caution the service team gave me was the rear tyre will soon need replacing. They indicated they were having trouble getting tyres.
When I got home I found a flint had punctured my wifes GS650 rear. I nipped the tyre round to my usual supplier (Bike tyres Leeds) for a replacement. Discussing the GS1200LC supply problem they confirmed Its becoming quite an issue for them, They have no suitable tyres in stock, Anakees may have been discontinued and are unobtainable. The next batch of Tourances have all been pre-ordered by customers and the best they can do for me is mid to end of July. is this a local problem or has anybody else had difficulty locating suitable tyres. Its not a lack of tyres for all makes, just those specified for the LC.

What's wrong with the Anakee 3's, I am on my 2nd rear? Can't see there being a problem but people do seem to be having problems getting tyres which is hard to believe now the bike has been out over a year!

We ordered 5 sets of Michelin Deserts for a trip recently.
I was warned that there was a backlog.
9 came in a week or two later, the last took another few weeks.
The same with ultra heavy duty tubes...already on back order...no guarantee of getting them in on time, so found them in stock elsewhere.
Seems to be a general problem.

I needed an Anakee 3 rear and couldn't find one for love nor money. Michelin's sales manager guided me to a small garage in Wales who had 3. All wholesalers were out of stock and indicated that there was a major supply problem from Michelin.

Whether this is still the case I don't know, but certainly there was an issue 3 weeks ago with the Anakee 3. No real issues with Conti's or Metz though, seemed to be in stock in a few places.

The rear tyre is an odd size (160/50 IIRC). I've only ever come across a 160/60 or a 150/70 in past experience.

I don't have an LC though.

It's a 170/60 R17 on the rear of the LC !

Had new rear tourance next fitted last week, at Barnsly National tyres! Rang then lunch time fitted 2 hours later.
No problem it was in stock

I was talking to a tyre rep a few weeks ago and michelin fugged up re the170/60 Annakees, they made plenty but over supplied by a large amount to a motorcycle manufacturer and left very few for resale.

Apparently they had enough for three or four times more bikes than they build that use that type of tyre ?

I Have a set of Anakee III's with 400 miles on now sitting in garage..
offers anyone...

oops sorry Nutty.. wrong place for this I suppose..

The 170/60R17 rear tire is not an odd size, there are many road tires that come in this size if you have an unexpected need for one. Its the 120/70R19 front that is not found on anything else besides a few cruiser models and the KTM 1190.

The 170/60 isn't an unusual road size but it is a fairly recent introduction as adventure sport tyre.

BMW has given Michelin 3 weeks to fulfill all the back orders. If they don't meet the deadline, they will be cancelling the contract with Michelin.
