Looks like I'm close on a new set of boots. Nearly 6K miles from Metzler Sportec 01SE's is probably the best mileage I've had from any tyre. Fronts wearing quicker than backs! Will probably replace with the same.

Coincidence perhaps, but my mate has a R1250GS and he is wearing out 2 fronts to one rear tyre and of course, the GS has the telelever front end, so it’s not that. He has had the Metzler 01s on his previous GS but he is running the Bridgestone A41s on his current bike, I can’t remember the wear rate on Metzlers. Maybe just riding styles?

The Interact Z8 Metzler....the original fitment tyre are a great price.....much cheaper than the Roadtecs and they are still a fine tyre.

Had the A41's on the GSA and I liked those. Quieter than the panikees too. Great mileage and good grip. Not quite as good as the Metzlers but perfectly adequate. Part of the reason for the front wear on the 01's is due to the dual compound under braking wears little ridges on the tread which scrubs to form small ridges, typically evident at 3K miles or less. They're pretty sensitive to tyre pressures once this happens. Anything much under 36 front and you can lose feedback from the front. All IME of course. My rear tyre has worn more evenly and I may even squeeze another thousand from that.
I preferred the 01's on mine. The bike had better slow speed stability with a more confidence inspiring turn in by comparison. Z8's are still a good tyre though.
I would love to buy the latest Roadtec 02 but I'm not paying the money.
The Z8 aren't a million miles away from being half the price of the latest models over here in Ireland
I rate Dunlop tyres very highly..but again.....I ain't paying the inflated (

Personally, I am with @younger06 and buy the earlier revisions. Until the UK factory closed, that was Avon Storm 3 but new owners Goodyear seem to have deleted them from the inventory made in France.

The T31 have been fine on the R1200RS riding around Spain last Sept/Oct and on the cold, wet roads we have had in recent months.

I scrubbed my new 01SEs a couple of days ago. I've used 01 and 01SE tyres ever since the original tyres wore out. Have never put a foot wrong.
I'm on my 10th rear and 9th front (punctures).
They are getting pricey.
I think I got 7K out of an early set, but now it's an annual thing. Around 5 to 6 K.

Took the Z8s off after 2800 miles and fitted road 6s difference is night and day, the road 6s are so much better, grip is amazing and much better feedback
with the 02 now out, maybe they will come down in price, or at least not go up much like other tier 2 tyres such as the Bridgestone T31 I am using

Not sure about that but it’s beginning to sound a bit like a ‘Boxerlust’ review fest.
Most tyres work fine in the dry, certain tyres suit certain bikes (no idea why). Some tyres last longer, some tyres feel safer in the wet.
If you keep your Metzeler Enduro tyre in a shed for five years before fitting it you’ll get twice the mileage from it than a fresh one - so I’m told, never tried it!
Not an ideal place to fit them
I stick to sport touring tyres, always did even when riding superbikes. For the road and odd track day they were far and away the best choice. Some suit the RS better than others. Personally I didn't like the feel of the RS with Z8's (my mate had them on his....he hated the things and changed them to 01's). I have BT023's fitted to the VeeStrom and would happily fit those to the RS too. £135 for a rear and 105 for a front for the GT spec ones for heavier bikes. They've worked well in wet and dry conditions with the Veestrom. No brainer. Can almost get a set fitted for the price of one new rear Sportech 02 which imho aren't worth the extra.
