Hi all,

I am new in the group. I am Spanish so please excuse me if I make any spelling mistakes or use some uncommon expressions.

I also want to apologise because I know that this is a question that is asked very frequently in this sort of groups. I have searched in the group and I haven´t found any threads that answer my question.

When i got the bike it came with Michelin Anakee 3 which it gives a sensational feel of grip. But they have lasted less than 4000 miles. I used to have a Hornet from 2008 and with BT023 I used to do around 8000 miles. But when I have asked in my local garage for the same tyres (I saw that some people were using them in oldder GS models), they have told me that there is no front BT023 size available for the new GS.

So my question is, what tyre will give me the longest mileage in a new R1200GS TE? I know it depends on my riding style but in general terms, what is best? I don´t do offroad, I am using the bike to commute (short distance) and I will be doing some road trips with it.

Thanks a lot.

David.

I has Michellin Pilot Road 4's on mine. Great tyre, and so much quieter than the Anakee's.

They don't square off as quickly as the Anakee's either.

Sold the bike before I wore the PR4's out, so not sure of mileage, but they still looked like new after 2K miles.

David You will get loads of replies and they will all be different. For road use only go for a sport touring tyre , they are all good so suggest you might decide by price if money is a bit tight.

Out of anakee and pilot 4 I would say give anakee a wide berth as they do square off and are simply not as good on the road.

If you are going to ride mainly on the road PR4's are the tyres to have, utterly brilliant! and they wear very well indeed!

Hi David, I can't help you out with tyre choice but welcome to the forum. Your English is far better than my Spanish!

Got nearly 9k on my rear AIII. It has a couple more K in her before chopping in. The tyre has squared off, but this doesn't effect my riding. I can still tip her into a corner and still feel planted.
AIII will replace it.

Metzeller Tourance nexts, excellent all round and good price.

Another vote for PR4 - I've had 3 sets of them - wouldn't use anything else.

Ola David...... thats my Spanish done,,,,
Ive had a couple of sets of tourance next on which were good tyres but on a run from Yorkshire to Morocco they squared off pretty quick and had to be changed at around 5000 mls....then i have had two sets of PR4 on which are a cracking tyre but i tend to ride with my helmet open and they can be a bit noisey....i also only get 5000 mls if im lucky but they are a very good in wet....some say they are prone to punctures but so far i havnt had any....
People will give all sorts of advice but for me so far its PR4..... some will tell you that different tyres weave or are good in wet, dry etc and then you notice they are sat on a air hawk pad so how on earth they get any feeling through their ass when sat on a bag of air i do not know...:blast
At the end of the day its what suits you and how you ride in my opinion.... adios....

For me....

The Anakee III seem to wear the fastest, but the bike feels the most stable at speed and cornering with them on. But for overall grip, the PR4's are better, especially in the wet however it made my GS a bit unsettled at speed.

Had 2 sets of Dunlop RoadSmart2s

Brilliant road and sports touring tyre.

Highly recommended.

had 9000 out of the original conti trail attacks, back was square and front like a toblerone by the end, just put the bike in for a new GSA (with a contribution from BMW for the corrosion on the GS)

Hello David and welcome to the site.

Given you're only really interested in road tyres the choices are PR4 (my preference) or Roadsmarts that I think are bit more hard wearing but IMHO not quite as good in the wet. Both good tyres though.

Which PR4 do you use on the back? Trail or Road??
