I know this subject has probably been done to death, but after a bit of tyre advice. Was thinking of replacing my front Tourance as I am going to France in a months time and leave the rear. Come home tonight and my 2/3rds worn rear Tourance has a bloody nail in it- I now have to opportunity to go for a matched pair.

I have only ever ridden the GS on Tourances, but have had experiences of several different makes on other bikes. I am discounting Avons straightaway as I had an Azaro ST that was absolute sh*te and had two front end slides in winter. There is nothing particularly wrong with the tourances, but fancy a change

Mileage isnt my greatest concern, but I am slightly(??) over average weight and virtually always carry a passenger. I ride in all weathers including winter so want something with plenty of grip whatever the weather- but most important is plenty of feeling from the front end- I tend to push the front quite a lot so need every confidence- wet or dry. I dont ride off road.

Do I stick with what I know or go for something different? Conti Road Attack? Conti Trail attack? Battlewings, etc etc

Now I could say do a search, but instead......................

Im like you I've been on tourances for years and years, I decided to change a couple of months ago. I got Avon Distanzia's, what a mistake. Great in the dry but slippery as shit when wet.
My next tyre of choice is conti trail attacks, as i've heard nothing but good about them, and I've been on a bike with road attacks on in the wet and ridden just like I would in the dry:thumb

On my second set of Michelin Anakees!

Good tyres .. BUY THEM.

Just put a set of "Road Pilots" on after only ever ridden on traili type tyres before........ feck me its made me into super man .....

only just got some anakees they seem alright to me...

Just gone from Tourances to Avon Storm/Azuro, only done 20miles so far so too ealry to tell, but weird getting used to the profiles

Recent article in either ride magazine or bike. Conti road attacks seemed to tick all the boxes for someone who is nearly always on the road. Friend s have them on a Yamaha TDM and likes them a lot.

Gave the Avons a pretty god scrub in last night and felt very good, take it easy for 100 miles, ha, no need they got to a nice temperature and seem to grip very well, next wet day will prove that ability, but so far they seem to be good.

Talking to the tyre guy at Micheldever, he says that 020's are still the tyre of choice for most adventure bikes, but he has noticed a change towards Avons and Road pilots as well so maybe they don't have the edge anymore

just done 300 dry miles round north norfolk in last 3 days on brand new conti road attacks thats with full panniers top box tank bag and a fattish rider suit me sir they're sticky sooner have plenty of grip for a few miles less!
regards bisbee

New tyres fitted- next problem to solve.....

Right- new tyres fitted. Did lots of research and decided on Conti Road Attacks. Look a damned sight different to Tourances- will update when I get a few miles on them.

Also now noticed a bit of movement in the rear wheel at 3-9 and a tiny bit at 12-6. Looks like my next job is to nip up the paralever bearings. Handy then that I have just acquired one of those creme brulee gas torches- looks like it will come in handy to melt the loctite.

Done some research and it seems an easy job- does the inner pin more or less stay in place while you torque up the locknut or is it a pain in the a*se for moving when nipping it up??
