Been looking around the web for info on tyres, for me I am probably still gonna go with Roadsmarts as I know how well they worked on my last bike and they were well regarded by the press and real owners, but there are plenty of new kids on the block!
What does seem clear is none of the Dual Purpose tyres get close to the sport-touring tyres on a track, pity they did not test any of them on a gravel track as well, be interesting to see if there is much (any) difference between the road tyres and these dual purpose tyres aimed at those who do 90%-95%on road.
I cannot see they could make up enough ground for my 1% "off-road" (or poor / dirt road) riding
Road Tyres:
Starting with some info on the latest stuff and going back in time, first up the new Pilot Road 3, gotta be a serious contender for the n-road only brigade...

Assuming it can pry the previous top sport-touring tyre of top spot:

Unfortunately these were not around when bike tested road tyres on a GS in 2008, but as the Roadsmarts comprehensively outperformed the winners of this test on many later shootouts it is probably fair to assume they would have here if they were available:

Off Road (ish)
OK some people wanna go off-road (A tiny bit) or just "look the part", so...
One of the newest tyres out there is the Dunlop TR91, according to the press (see later) its predecessor was pretty good and this one is meant to be better:

Not quite as new is the Pirelli:

The Bike 2007 test is here, but many of these tyres have now been superceded:
