tyres

Janie,

I think you'd be well pleased the Road Attacks.

I have my suspicions that the people on here who are saying that Tourances are the best haven't actually tried the Road Attacks. I've tried both, and found the Tourances to be good, and long lasting - but nowhere near as confidence inspiring as Road Attacks. The RA's might not last quite as long but they're definitely worth any extra cost.

Any dual purpose tyre like the Tourance will be somewhat of a compromise when compared to a pure road tyre like the Road Attack.

Some have recommended the Bridgestone 020's which I have had on a few other bikes recently. Unfortunately my K12RS came with a brand new set of them, & I don't get on with them at all. They are OK but compared to RA's they feel wooden and are very prone to wandering over surface changes. I will definitely be trying to get some RA's fitted to that bike too, as soon as I've worn the 020's out.

Janie,
I've used road attacks on my 1150 gs (just sold, waiting for 1200 to arrive) and was well pleased. The steering was lighter than previous tourances and scorpions with much more accurate turn in. Grip was fine, even in the wet. I was concerned that the tread pattern wouldn't clear water quick enough but rain riding was still good fun. I think the steering benefits that I've mentioned realy come through in poor weather.
Hope that helps.

Have you considered the Avon Storm ST rear/ Avon Azaro ST front combination. When tested in Bike Magazine they won the test outright until being disqualified for an manufacturing fault!
I am either looking at the Avon's or the Road Attacks can't decide.....
A friend of mine runs the Avon's and highly rates them...

Cheers Phil

Pure road tyre?

020's - without a doubt. Had them on my vanilla 1200, worked very well.

You won't need the faux 'chunky' appearance of Anarkee etc.

Until dark motorway/large area of standing water/aquaplane scenario presents itself, that was on a Fazer/020. The tread pattern of Tourances on the GS are less likely to recreate a 'FFS beam me up Scotty' experience like that one.

Rear Tourance replaced at 9000 due to large nail, front one still doing it at 12950( will probably need a new one soon).

Cant see how to justify fitting tyres that will be shot in 5000 miles.

life would be so borin if we all liked the same things.........and if i don't like these road attacks i will try something else......maybe use them as a summer tyre and a tourance for winter.........who knows....lol

I'm watching this post with interest as I've nearly managed to bin my Anakees.

My considerations are Tourances, Road Attacks or Trail Attacks :nenau

Still not decided and still a few miles to total the Anakees, but they're nearly finished. :thumb

Hiya POG

Steve Sirrels doing a pair of Road Attack fitted to wheels off the bike for £156 all in, including balance and tyre disposal. Just got a pair yesterday in favour of a pair of Battle Wings, the rear of which had flattened off in just under 3K miles.

That said the Tourances on the old 1150 were OK.

My rear Battlewing lasted over 6000 enthusiastic miles. It started to square after a two up tour in Cornwall at less than 3000, but I managed to get the profile back on my commute to work.
Never liked them tho as the tread blocks seem to move around too much
Now got 020's and love them

Hi Janie

I have Road Attacks on my 1200 GS and they are good. Much more flowing in their behavior than block pattern tyres and no tyre 'moments' in over 3000 miles. I would suggest that 5000 miles will be absolute max you will get from a rear.

Cheers
Harry

I ran Conti Road Attacks on my HP2 and they do work very nicely, not sure if it was down to tyre or bike but I could run the back off the edge of the tyre with very little effort. :thumb

I have ContiTrail Attacks on my 2008 GSA - only because that is what the bike came from the factory fitted with. No complaints so far regarding tyre wear or grip.

Also had Road Attacks on my previous bike, a K1200S, and they worked very well on that....

Anyone know if the Trail Attack is just a different/deeper tread that the Road Attack, or if there are other differences, such as side walls being uprated to take heavier bikes for example??
