Ubuntu recognising second H/D

I have P4 3.06Ghz computer running Ubuntu (7.10). I have fitted a second hard disk.

The two H/Ds are properly set up Master/Slave. If I run a hardware checking program it sees the second H/D OK.

Ubuntu, however, doesn't seem to see it. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

The answer is not that simple but with help from a friend we (he) worked it out.
