UK Coastal trip 12th May-27th May

Evening everyone,

Pondgirl calling. Just reporting that Pondboy and carcher have arrived at their New Forest Youth (ha, who's he trying to kid?)Hostel and will be available for photo opportunities at Calshot tomorrow morning at 7am (personally I'll still be in bed!)

Does anyone want to own up to being on a yellow 1200 GS that they passed on the M3 near Winchester?

Safe riding all of you. I will report in tomorrrow on the 1st official day of their trip

Day 1

The boys left their YHA in the New Forest at 6.30 am and arrived at Calshot at 7 am where they were met by David Griffiths of the RNLI for photo's and then he sent them on their way via three RNLI stations around Portsmouth.

300 miles later they arrived at Margate having visited 17 stations on the way only to find that the YH was full so they moved on to Cantbury where they found space to camp as that YH was full of Dutch children :gosh

They were tired but happy last night having covered just over 300 miles in 13 hrs and Pondboy was particularly happy to report that they achieved 205 miles out of one tank full

They are looking forward to meeting up with Fausto today for the next leg of their trip

Catching up

Sorry to be slow with the updates. Having too much fun with Pondboy away

Day 2 saw them riding from Canterbury to Sutton Hoo. The very nice RNLI people at Clacton allowed them to follow a private route along the seafront to Walton-on-the-Naze, and they were riding through the sea (well almost!). A very kind and hospitable Fausto put them up at his place in Sutton Hoo where they had a refreshing night's sleep before setting out on the next leg.

Day 3 and a very windy but exhilarating ride around the Norfolk coast and eventually on up to Beverley (they do assure me that this is a place!) Carcher managed to take the honours of being the first to drop his bike but as it was on sand the only damage was to his pride

Day 4 Today, Sunday and PB phones me at 7.30 to say that they are setting off (who needs sleep anyway? ) and will be in Scotland for the evening. I'll report in later on how the day went.
Stef, if you send me a PM via PB's account I'll keep you posted as to when they will be in your neck of the woods, wherever that is!

Firstly, thank you sooo much Forry for posting those piccies although I'm all wobbly now!

They had a great night sleeping with the cows and thanks Chris for your wonderful hospitality.

They set off at about 8 am and are hoping to reach S Queensferry by 10 am.

Thanks Motorrad Central - Glasgow

Just got a lovely new pair of Contour Plus boots at Motorrad Central Glasgow after spending all day with a pair of very wet feet. No thanks to my old Sidi Black Rain boots, they leaked like a sieve.

The Parts Manager at Motorrad Central (Blair) could not have been more helpfull and Traci managed not to faint when I revealed my dead fish like feet before putting on the Contours.

Now we are off to Helensburgh RNLI before sleeping in Loch Lomond YHA.

Hello All!!!

Found my way back onto the internet after 8 days of talking about ponds!!

trip is going great, we are well on schedule, though the Dakar has taken a few scrapes (clipped a bollard on day 2, and then dropped it on the beach on day 3 ) still it's only the right pannier that's taken it.

Pondy managed to break his Sat Nav audio lead a couple of days ago when he nearly dropped the bike (I caught him by the way and don't let him tell you different ) , so i've gotta do the techie bit tomorrow and try and fix it

anyways, gonna get off to bed now coz it's another long day tomorrow,

RNLI in action

Breaking news....

Just had a phonecall from Pondboy to say that they were witnessing their first real rescue at Fleetwood and were about to meet a real RNLI team! Apparently someone had gone out for an early morning swim and got caught in a riptide. So to the RNLI guys. This is what the whole trip is all about.

The bad news is that Carcher has picked up a screw in his rear tyre which will obviously need dealing with sooner rather than later.

More later probably after they have met up with Bustupbiker in North Wales.

New Tyres

After a mindblowing run yesterday (462 miles on B roads and minor A roads) we took it easy today. A short run from Cumbria down to North Wales.

Watched one sea rescue, one huge lifeboat being tractored across 1/4 mile of beach to be launched and had a nice chat with a Plod who is doing an A road coastal run with his mates on R1s & Blades.

Just got our new rear tyres fitted at Buckley Tyres. Nice guys who know how to put tyres on in double quick time. As soon as we had arrived, they pushed us to the front of a large queue of other bikers and hooked off my rear with a few comments on the the lack of tread. Carcher also got his replaced after running all morning with a cross head screw in the centre tread block. Who says Ultraseal doesn't work!

Now we are eating and drinking BustupBiker out of house and home before an early night ready to meet Sid, Reggie, McGill and all the crew of the Flint RNLI station.

Should be 50/50 split between F650's/1200GS's If it wasn't for the Welsh Plod, it could make for and interesting contest. Our cornering v their speed.

Glad to hear that your still going strong... sounds like a lot of fun even though some long days on your back sides...
and what about that excursion on the beach... I didnt know you had planned to do some sunbathing as well!!! :sunshine ... oh well you need a bit of R & R as well I suppose...lol
