Must be something amiss here - they usually last for around 50K miles

Did you replace the rectifier unit when you changed your stator the first time .... as recommended by BMW

If the rectifier is faulty it will fuck your stator

:beerjug:

Yes rectifier replaced
original stator lasted 39K next 3 around 6 months/6,000 miles

I am on my 3rd stator. first one lasted 30k and second one 6k. Replaced rectifier everytime.

The rectifier actually failed and was replaced under guarantee (Motorbins I think) but you cannot tell if the rectifier went and killed the stator or the other way round.

I had the stator rewound at West country Windings again, bought a rectifier at BMW (has 1 year warentee) and also bought a waterproof voltmeter which will give me warning of another failure

Fingers crossed....

I think I would be having the original supplier OR an auto electrical specialist checking the failed stator to find out what is making them fail ie is the wire being used too light a gauge or similar ................. or have the bikes a deeper rooted (design) problem causing premature failures .

Seems odd that if the replacement parts are up to spec they are only lasting 6000 miles (then again why is the original only lasting between 30,000 and 50,000 miles )

I think my original went to 63,300 miles ... original BMW Stator and Rectifier fitted ...

Now at 125,000 miles

Are they burning out on all three loops or just one?

Also worth having a look at ADV threads - you can get a (larger) RR that will run hotter and then the stator cooler.

I believe they changed the flywheel on the later models to allow the stator to run cooler. I don,t know how this has affected the later bikes as there is no reporting trends on failiures between each year.
