Uk to Cameroon .. starting 14th December?

What's the worst thing that can happen?

Death isn't a worst thing as there will be nothing to worry about if I did die. Disability and chronic diseases are things that worry me.

So for those of you that have gone to Gambia .. what's the worst thing that can happen?

OR ..

What to avoid AND

What is definitely worth seeing?

Timescale will be 4-5 weeks.


Going with a travel company pretending to be some charity thing. So that means no support but costs you money.
 
The worst bit is riding through Spain in winter, it can be freezing cold. As the dates get closer look at the 10-day forecasts for places at altitude such as Valladolid for an idea of temperatures. Even right now you're looking at early morning temperatures of less than 4c. Handlebar muffs, heated grips, gouchos and heated jacket are all useful.

Border crossings are a pain between Mauritania/Senegal and Senegal/Gambia. It's a toss up as to which is the most corrupt, Senegal or Gambia. I found the trip down the coast through Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania very interesting (if sometimes a little barren).

Having been there once I wouldn't bother going back to Senegal as it's boring countryside and not particularly cheap.

Having just got back from there I can confirm they've had a bit of an Indian Summer this year, yes it was cold as we crossed over from France, through Andorra to Spain, but it didnt last long. The majority of our 10 day trip was spent in mid to up twenties, with all the linings and heated jackets packed away.

If you have time, Spain has some great roads to offer on the way down and back!

The worst thing that can happen to you is you end up at the Rosso crossing of the Senegal River.:blast

And make sure you have the best travel insurance you can afford. And bring your patience and sense of humour with you:D

Apart from the Rosso nightmare (Oh! That just reminds me of the minefield at the Moroccan Mauritanian border) the rest is a doddle and fantastic fun. :bounce1
