ULTIMATE EAR

I got mine from Clements & Osborne in Glasgow and they arrived on Monday.

Results so far:

1. They fit very well, so they bloody should considering the're custom made, but the fit feels odd after wearing normal foam earplugs for years.
2. noise reduction is fantastic without making me deaf
3. music/sound quality - very good, although there is not much bass response.

All round I'd say they're good value for money at £180 and the normal noise blockers (on order) are only £40. Prices include taking the moulds. Slow delivery time but they were not late.

The audiometrist explained that if the fit was not quite right then they be reamde until they were spot on.

Highly recommended

Yes, I did contact Ultimate, and they said I could get a local ear expert to do the mouldings and send them in. Green Leopard by contrast had a list of people who they recommended in my area and I picked one of those. I'd rather have someone who knows the product really well than just having an ear expert type person working on the impression, and someone else unrelated making the moulds. I just felt with Green Leopard that the guy coming over would have more end to end responsibility, although I do know that they are not made by him but by the GL factory place.

So, it's a really close call. Had I been anywhere near an Ultimate roadshow, I'd have got them to do it for sure, but it just hasn't worked out that way I'm afraid.

I'll report back on quality etc.

The nice Green Leopard man came round. He wasn't green or covered in spots so I still don't know where the name comes from. Anyway, he did the ear mould thing very efficiently and produced two blue rubbery master moulds which were v.interesting.

Delivery of the finished earplugs with inbuilt speakers will be in 2-3 weeks. I'll let you know how they perform when they arrive.

I had a look-see at the Ultimate Ear web site again. Many of my issues with it have been addressed i.e. it now has a proper diary of events that they will be attending and it looks like they are getting a proper list of local mould takers (impressionists??) set up, so good on them.
