bout to order a set of Ultimate ears monitors (seems to be the prefered choice of may users of the group).

What lead(s) will I need to connect to the 7 pin connector on my Autocom super pro avi (2007 model). Found a 26 on the autocom web but it says for speach only, I want to listen to music as well as speach:bounce1

You will need a either a Part 1187 or 1188 all depending on if you are after a straight or colied extension lead. These parts are designed for in-ear speaker use allowing for everything to be used even our original speakers if needed.

The Part 26 is the old part number for the Part 1187 btw.

I would order part 18. It provides connectors for the earphones if you subsequently decide to use them and one for a microphone. A simple 3.5mm plug (you would have to specify stereo i think) hangs down next to the standard Autocom 7 pin helmet lead and connects to your UE monitors. This is the system I use and it works very well without having the bulky "connector" box of the part numbers that GSRich mentions. It also means you dont have to find room for the unused speakers in your helmet

must resist shameless sales pitch....

...failed :D

bashkeria - please also consider the Green Leopard monitors. (I am a Green Leopard agent BTW...)

they look like this:

and your part 1187 works like this:

and I'm nowhere near you so won't be making any money on the deal :D

It's a custom product, so choose what's best for you :thumb (just making you aware of your options)

Or you could Lop off the speakers and solder a 3.5mm stereo socket in their place that sits next to the 7pin din at your helmet....

I've done this to my last two Autocom systems without a problem...

I hasten to add that this is not an official Mod and I've no doubt that GSrich may pop along and tell you not to...;)... but it has worked for me for years...:thumb

Interesting that the GLs use air hose up to the ear-plugs (a la planes in the 80's) - but ............... at least the hose is more robust than thin screened cable and should be easily renewable? :nenau

Im on holiday for two weeks now so I will not say a thing lol

Bah but yeh my Roof helmet is fitted out the same for ease of use and if in and out of our works Subaru track car or my stripped out mini I can use any extension lead I want (if I dont have my 1188 to hand) and also have the choice of speakers as in my in ears or our normal speakers

Spot on. We used to get a lot of the cable ones fail as the wire kept bending every time you take your helmet on and off. The cable eventually weakens and breaks. With the speaker moulded into the earplug the whole thing is a write off (or £200 down the toilet as it used to be). Air tubes don't break and even if they did it's a simple and very cheap repair without compromising sound quality. Because they are simpler to manufacture they are also quite a bit cheaper to buy.

Hey thanks for all the comments, never thought about cutting the speakers off and fitting a socket :blast, will give it some thought (and practice with a soldering iron before I cut ):):)

I'll post a pic if you like...:nenau

Green Leopard

I miss my custom moulded in ear monitors but having forked out for 2 sets with both snapping thier wires I'm reluctant to get another set. The GLs sound just the job. I've googled the website but there is no information on motorcycle kits. Any info would be appreciated, especially how they compare in sound quality to in ear monitors.

Thanks

Steve

Hi spm0912,

Not sure what you mean by 'motocycle kits' but I can give you any info you need (even if you end up buying from another agent - no probs) - what do you need them to do?

The website is  a bit crap at the moment... it's being worked on :)

Sound quality is as good as the old in ear monitors - possibly better. We're just getting some new sets which have improved transponders in them (should be here in six weeks(ish). These are being made to our spec as we had problems with the supplier of the old ones so we've taken control of the manufacturing.

The only negative feedback I've had on the air tubes is that they can pick up noise if they are flapping around outside your jacket. The solution seems to be just to tuck them in under the jacket. There's a few ukGSers using them - so you should be able to get some feedback from 'users' rather than me as a retailer.

The OTiS sound quality can be demonstrated so you can 'hear before you buy' - ask your local agent, there's a few to choose from around London. If you're coming to the BMF Tail End show - I'll be there and can do the demo for you.

Hope that helps :thumb

Thanks for the info on GLs. I need them to work with my autocom, I already have the autocom lead so just require the ear piece and wire to plug into that.

Dealers around London seem to be very shooting based (Purdey & sons), might try to get to BMF if your there.

thanks

Steve
