When I was last in to see Steve at F&B he had a nice glossy brochure pack from Ultraseal in his workshop telling how he could make 100% plus profit by becoming an Ultraseal outlet. The local Ultraseal rep had been to see him trying to convince him of the millions that Steve would make by selling it. The mark-up on the stuff is incredible if you sell the small containers. If, like some of the dealerships and tyre outlets, you buy it by the barrel then the mark up is nothing short of obscene. So what should one make of a product that is so deliberately setup to make its distributors and retailers an incredible amount of money at the expense of the ordinary motorcyclist?

Steve himself says he has only ever come across three punctured tyres with Ultraseal in them and in every case the Ultraseal had failed.

I must be using the REAL ultraseal..

Ultraseal has never let me down. I have pulled several nails and other sharp objects from my tyre without any loss of pressure and never experienced the stuff leaking out all over my tyre/bike.

Last week I pulled half a razor blade from the back tyre of my wifes faser, a very small amount of goo leaked out. No loss of pressure a week later, no more pink goo leaking out.

Maybe I have been lucky but I think that pink goo Rocks.:D

6 weeks ago I noticed a heavy duty staple in my rear tyre and having Ultraseal in my 4x4's tyres I thought I'd put the leftover goo in my GS's tyre. I had enough so in it went.

I then removed the staple and noticed a purple goo slowly bubbling through the hole. The pressure was say 42psi before and had been holding steady. Afterwards it was ......... still 42. Next day after a 40 mile ride I noticed it was still bubbling ever so slightly but the pressure was ........ 42. 6 weeks later it is still .........42psi.

So, see all you moaning buggers can keep shtum so far as I'm concerned. I've pulled wire, nails, screws and thorns from my 4x4's tyres over the last 6 months and always been able to get home. THe tyres have been repaired several times by different places including Kwik Fit without complaint and the only comment was " is it good stuff?"

I think that any garage that says "Oh, sorry I can't fix that it's got goo in it, here pay £85 for a new tyre" is to be suspected of a rip off but you lot don't see to think that way.

Anyone who says that Ultraseal doesn't work didn't put enough in (or their dealer didn't)... or they are full of shit (that can happen as well as not enough Ultraseal) ...

Thats my 2p's worth...

ultraseal

Went out 3 week ago with a friend on X11 when we got to our destination he found a 6 inch nail in his 1000m old bridgestone (oops) (s&&t)
went to the local dealer who recomended ultraseal to fix the tyre 4 hours later & still the tyre was leaking not as bad but it was leaking a new bridgestone was fitted.
One well brassed off friend & an extra £25 lighter for the ultraseal which did not work.

6" nail !

Come on, if you read the ultraeal blurb they make no bones about the effectiveness. If the carcass is damaged then nothing will fix it.

I note that you're friends tyre was not fixable by normal plugging repair, either that he's so gullible that he was conned out of a new tyre. What the :GS:GS:GS:GS do you want.

I shall reiterate; if the tyre has ultraseal fitted then it has protection, it is not god's gift to tyre survival, a big hole will kill the tyre. If a tyre is so badly punctured that a normal repair is not recommended then Ultraseal is hardly going to do any better. Finally, suspect any dealer that says "Sorry , mate, I can't fix that its got goo in it, here's a replacement for £120 plus fitting"

All these sob stories of " My mate fitted ultraseal and when he found a gash the size of Alicia Duvall's fanny in his rear tyre, he was dismaed to see that the ultraseal had not ptrevented a loss of pressure. Ultraseal is obviously crap and a waste of money."

ultraseal

I can understand where you are coming from but the fact remains that in the jargon it says that it will repair so thats why he tried it which was understandable.
It also got him to the nearest dealer to change the tyre but cant you pay less than half the price for something that will get you home & scrap the tyre anyway so why pay the extra for ultraseal.

Agreed. There are the aerosol things that will get you home assuming you have the space (luckily we mostly have panniers etc.)

The fact also remains, however, that US sorted my rear tyre, stopped an annoying slow leak in the front (dirty rim I suspect) and many punctures in my 4x4s.

I was very suspicious of the claims and tryed with an open mind, I do not think it to be an all consuming panacea but it does what it claims.

There are others like Linseal that are cheaper but do not ahve the speed testing.

I have it in my front tyre. Its one of those shitty tourances. The bike now handles much better (not perfect tough). It has allowed me to finish using the front tyre and the new rear. so it has saved me quite a lot of cash. Cant say if it works with punctures though.

NOTE THIS

The cheap tyre goo is not UltraSeal and does not work in the same way. Can`t be arsed to explain but U.S has different properties to the cheap stuff that is mixed up for low pressure, low speed off road vehicles. ULTRASEAL is a brand name not a generic name for tyre sealant.
:)

I haven't yet put the Ultraseal in my tyres to the test (touch wood), but have previously suffered a rapid deflation of a rear tyre when entering a left-hand corner. I stayed upright but that involved drifting across the oncoming lane (thankfully empty...) to the far kerb. Not an experience I'd care to repeat, so the Ultraseal stays.

worked for me off the beaten track in Spain.

Also found i seem to get more mileage out of the tyre. Plus there is very little loss of pressure over quite a long period of time.

Always used it on the Fazer and has stopped me getting new tyres 4 times now, normally get a screw or nail within the 1st 500miles of a new tyre, must stop riding in the dirty middle part of the A4. Have removed 6" nails and it had already sealed the hole so gets my thumbs up, oh and get it quite cheap as a mate buys it in bulk and adds it when he fits my tyres.

Bikers like to gamble, and for £25, US if it works, is a safe bet. Bike shops are few and far between in the Middle East, especially getting new GS type tyres of the shelf and, as inhabitants are few and far between as well along the beaten track, if it works.....praise Allah for being most merciful in getting me home.

Interesting reading

i've read this thread with great interest.... not so much at the varying opinions of ultraseal, but just about the shear number of punctures that some of you seem to "regularly" get...

I find it amazing, over the last 4 years, i've covered appx 160,000 miles on a few bikes (Yam, Fazer,Yam T'cat, Honda Pan-euro) and in all that time i had 1 puncture (on the T'cat)

I'm not doubting you guys.... but geez.... a little care will save you all that trouble... and it's free too... bonus :D

WOW... maybe i've just been VERY lucky... here's hoping :beerjug:
