Hi, has anybody used Ultraseal on an 1150 (spoked) ??

the guys on www.disco3.co.uk seem to recommend it quite strongly for cars, trailers and bikes... i'm off to the Picos in the summer and could do without a puncture !!

the alternative is to buy a puncture repair kit as per standard fitment.... but they seem the same price £20/30 quid!!... i bought the GS last year and cannot find the standard fitment item... or even know where it's supposed to be!! so i may even have one...... its not in the toolkit!

The benefit of ultraseal ( if it works of course) is i can put it in in the comfort of my garage and not be on the side of a mad spanish road with my 13 year old son......

also come tyre change time does it make a right ole mess?.....

Type it into the 'search' and get yourself a few cans of beer to find all and more you need to know:thumb

I use it just make sure that your wheels are balanced properly before installing the stuff as wheels cannot be balanced with it in it. Some bikes/tyres feel funny/unstable with it in but you don't know until you try.
Come wheel change time just tell the fitter before they work on it otherwise there will be a mess all over their place.
Should you get a screw in the tyre and the tyre is still up DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREW :augie
Ultraseal etc only seals smooth surfaces and the screw leaves a rough edge to the rubber.
You still need to check your tyres regularly for any damage that you are not aware of.
Now use the SEARCH for further info.

Thanks for your help!!.... now for the search

ummmm 160 posts for Ultraseal alone!!! looks like a weekend job!

used it on two bikes currantly on my 1100 g.s with spoked wheels it will extend tyre life got 10000 from a anarkee on the rear front still got 4mm,
no problems with stability as said on a previous thread get wheels balanced first
some tyre fitters dont like it so tell them before they start changing tyres
i use watling tyres in gravesend 01474 321455 www.watlingtyres.co.uk not sure if that is any use to you not sure where you are down south

It's not commonly known that Ultraseal can be washed with soap and water, but you'd still better tell them when it comes to changing the tyre. :augie

I think it works, but having said that I now carry a puncture repair kit instead. I did have Ultraseal in my previous 1150GSA and toured Poland and Germany quite happily. When I came to sell the bike, the buyer did notice a small peice of wire in the rear wheel - it had rubbed itself shiny. We left it in there and as far as I know it stayed in there for the life of the tyre.

The one problem I can see with it, is that if the whole is too big for it to work, you can't then use a repair kit. :(

Which is why I said to get the sticky strings and a pump, that way only a huge tear in the tyre will strand you, I think steptoe posted where he used 4 plugs in his tyre after getting a huge bolt in his tyre :augie

As someone who uses it, the jury's out.
Especially in motorcycles. Unless you can ensure that the puncture is in the dead centre of the wheel tyre will probably go down anyway.
Because of the hassle of a puncture, I tend to put it in, (rear only) but I have had motorcycle tyres go down with it in use.
I also have a Smart car. Works better there because tyre surface is flatter, but they tend to go down too.
Regards Michael

I used it in my 1150gs last summer for a trip to Morocco with no problems.
Front and rear TCK80s, I was lucky and did'nt get a puncture but thought it would be safer with it in my tyres.
It is bloody messy when its time to change them though.

But it is nice to be told, it may wash of with soapy water but when you break the seal and it fires onto the wall and drips on your tyre machine when removing the tyre its nice to know before hand that you have got some cleaning to do afterwards.
Dont bother with the stuff just get a repair kit.

"it will extend tyre life got 10000 from a anarkee "

Bugger, I went and put mine on the inside. :guitarist

Excellent stuff! Far better than farting about with string and pumps at the side of the road. And running the risk of a sudden deflation chucking you off.

If your tyre goes down with Ultraseal in it, then it's probably fckd anyway.

I am running it in the current pair, everything fine so far, no nails discovered yet though.

Ultraseal, yuk, horrible expensive nasty stuff.

I use Slime, nice green slimey stuff :green gri , cheaper by far from our local tractor shop.

Got it in 18 bus wheels, 15 minibus wheels, 6 bike wheels, 5 van wheels, 5 car wheels, 4 tractor wheels and also in me old grannys shopping trolly.

Tried but failed to get it in the forklift. Solid tyres.:blast
