Unable To Remove Antivir Programme From PC

at the weekend, I stupidly installed an antivirus programme called Antivir. It popped up on my screen telling me my system was out of date and, thinking it was part of my existing AVG system, I clicked download. :blast

Since then, I've had numerous warnings from Antivir about Trojan Horses, Worms and viruses trying to access my bank details etc and it's obviously them trying to get me to buy their upgrade.

Problem is, I can't remove this programme from my PC. When I click on Add and Remove, there is no sign of the Antivir on my PC.

My desktop icons have now all been removed as have my Add ons. :confused: and I can only access the net via my favourites. My home page (Google) won't load when I switch on.

Please help before I throw the fecker out of an upstairs window....

When the user visits one of these webpages at least 20 times per day, a popup will appear; the popup claims that the user’s computer may have been compromised by malware and it advises the user to perform an online scan. It will then claim to have found malware and it will advise the user to download and install Antivir to keep the computer"

1. Download Avast anti virus, do not install yet

2. Uninstall AVG do not restart PC

3. Now Install Avast and when prompted say 'yes' when asked to schedule a Boot Scan and then restart the PC.

During the boot scan it will display the progress in percentage form and hopefully it will pick up 'Antivir' , I've used this method on other PCs and only once has it failed to find the program.

Upon finding it you will be given a list of 10 options, select option No2 'Delete all'

The length of the procedure will be dependant on the amount of crap you've got on the hard drive:thumb2

I've downloaded Malaware, Kev but I can't open it to commence the instructions per your link

I couldn't download this programme and that aside, I now can't access my Add and Remove programmes on my PC so I would be unable to remove my existing AVG to comply with these instrctions

I had to d/l Malaware onto a pendrive via the wifes Laptop..
THEN run it on my pc to kill the fecking BASTARD thats got your PC..
It worked...
Make sure that your pc is not connected to internet when running Malaware via pen drive... and don't forget to get all updates from malaware on the pendrive before runnig it :thumb2
Once it's got the bastard then connect back to internet and run malaware again :thumb2 just to make sure ..:rob

It also won't let you access AVG or update, and if you try to get AVAST it blocks that

But I haven't been looking at Naked Choirboys.com :nenau

PS I can't try your pendrive/laptop advice cos I don't feckin have one. I think I'll try the Oot The Windae method...
 
failing that .... click start , click run , type in MSCONFIG , hit ok , choose selective startup , click startup tab , deselect all , click ok , restart machine , acknowledge selective statrup message .this should stop the fucker from starting and allow you to access tinternet to download and install the malawarebite programme hope this helps

p.s. remember to switch off selective startup after flushing the **** out of your puter :thumb2:thumb2

p.p.s it installs and runs fine , even with avg running
 
have you tried any of the above in safe mode ?

restart your PC and while it's booting up press/hold F8 it'll give you a list of options select safe mode, this loads enough windows to work but not the full hog ?
 
If you have all of your files backed up on external media or a second drive and have the operating system disks it might be easier to completely reformat the c drive and re-install the OS. Probably result in the PC working faster as well. You will need to re-install any other software that you use and then copy your files back.

If you browse with Mozilla Firefox do you use the add on NoScript? I find it very good. It means that unless you've approved the site it can't run scripts on your PC. It may not have saved you though if you'd clicked yes to allow Antivir.

I'll try another few suggestions before I take a hammer to the fecker :mad:
 
Time you spend fafing around trying to remove it will be quicker to save all important stuff format c drive and reinstall your operating system you pc will run better as well :)
 
Last resort, perhaps. Think I had to do it this way before

Start PC in safe mode.

Open windows explorer: my computer, local disc (c), program files.

There may be a folder for "antivir" DELETE the folder.

While you are there search for antivir.exe in case there's another hiding, delete it as well.



This should then stop it loading on start up.

I can recommend "Spy Sweeper" by webroot, one of the few programmes I'll pay a sub for.
