Just called Carol Nash for a quote on my new bike (R1200GSA TE). I did have a multi bike policy with the 1150 GSA SE and my RnineT which cost me around £380 a year. When i sold the SE i got a £14 refund and only kept the Rnine T on a live policy. So today I call them to get a quote for the new GSA and get quoted a whopping £865.63!!!! WTF.

When I ask why it's so much i'm advised it's the value of the new GSA at £17k. So I advise i'm not prepared to pay anywhere that and they ask where it would need to be for me to reconsider. I say as a minimum it needs to be below the £500 mark at which point the young girl advises she is off to speak to a manager. While she is doing that I do a quick quote on ebike and it comes back with multi bike policy, fully comp quote of £316. Now i know eBike doesn't have a good name so i have reservations about using them but the difference between £865 and £316 is huge... Anyway the young girl comes back and advises she has managed to get my quote down to £497 and would i be happy to proceed. I say no as i've just had a quote from eBike for £316 for both bikes and she then asks me if I know about the service eBike offer. I politely advise that i don't but as long as my riding for the next year is as good as it has been for the past 11 years it will still only cost me £316 for the year.
Anyway she goes off again and after a few minutes comes back and advises the best they can offer is the same as my original premium on the 1150 SE and quotes me £380 for both bikes...
Job done. Just goes to show the difference you can get on a policy if your are prepared to (threat to) go elsewhere. Difference of £485.00 between the 2 quotes!!!!!

With C N you really need to have a 'classic' bike on the policy (especially if it has an agreed value ) to really benefit.

My last renewal fully comp for a 1982 (agreed value) Katana, a 64 plate GSA, a 2011 plate GSA and a 1993 Honda XR250 was £330 .

Buy a 1970's C90 put it on your policy

I'm with Carole Nash, my policy is one designed for bikes 10 years of age and older. I'm 42 with 10+ years NCB.
I have-

2004 KTM 950 ADV
1983 BMW R100CS
1982 Yamaha XJ550
1974 Ural M66

My premium is around £290 a year ... pretty much every year. They've never tried to pull a fast one with me come renewal time and I'm happy to stay with them because I believe that as an insurance company they offer a decent package.

I have however in the past had to play renewal roulette with insurance companies and can fully appreciate how frustrating it is!!

With 11 years no claims, you should be paying much less. I've got 5 years, and insured the GSA and XR for around £300, with Principal Insurance.

I have recently taken up a fully comp. insurance for my 1200rt with a company called JMI, stands for just motorcycle insurance evidently. The premium was £108, very reasonable I thought ,considerably less than C N quote. When I received the docs. from them I see that they are in fact a part of the Carol Nash organisation , no frills however as I don't need the breakdown cover it doesn't really matter.

Renewed mine a couple of weeks ago, £339 with Carole Nash. That's for 6 (now 7) bikes fully comp with free UK and european breakdown cover.

They even added my recently acquired Honda XL250 for free :thumb2.

As said, best to have an old classic on the policy, it doesn't even have to be roadworthy.
I've heard you can even buy any old frame with a log book for a few quid and insure it, that way it qualifies you for the classic insurance.

All my old classics are runners and ridden :thumb2

Also i base my insurance on more than just the cost of cover.
I had to make a claim back in 2012 due to a myopic minicab driver (he was fined £650 and received 9 points) driving into my old Harley and CN dealt with every aspect of the (large) claim in the most efficient and hassle free manner with just one phone call. That's the difference between a cheap chase the business (ebike) type quote, you end up doing all the work and phone calls etc... you generally get what you pay for.

Great, im with carole Nash and have just ordered a gsa. I was loathe to go with them again but got swayed by the European cover.

I was withCN for years as I was happy with their cover and price until last year I went through the same saga and vowed not to do it again for this years renewal even though they tried it on when I asked for my proof of ncd. Because of their silly games I am now happily insured elsewhere and will probably be so for many years to come
