Just called Carol Nash for a quote on my new bike (R1200GSA TE). I did have a multi bike policy with the 1150 GSA SE and my RnineT which cost me around £380 a year. When i sold the SE i got a £14 refund and only kept the Rnine T on a live policy. So today I call them to get a quote for the new GSA and get quoted a whopping £865.63!!!! WTF.
When I ask why it's so much i'm advised it's the value of the new GSA at £17k. So I advise i'm not prepared to pay anywhere that and they ask where it would need to be for me to reconsider. I say as a minimum it needs to be below the £500 mark at which point the young girl advises she is off to speak to a manager. While she is doing that I do a quick quote on ebike and it comes back with multi bike policy, fully comp quote of £316. Now i know eBike doesn't have a good name so i have reservations about using them but the difference between £865 and £316 is huge... Anyway the young girl comes back and advises she has managed to get my quote down to £497 and would i be happy to proceed. I say no as i've just had a quote from eBike for £316 for both bikes and she then asks me if I know about the service eBike offer. I politely advise that i don't but as long as my riding for the next year is as good as it has been for the past 11 years it will still only cost me £316 for the year.
Anyway she goes off again and after a few minutes comes back and advises the best they can offer is the same as my original premium on the 1150 SE and quotes me £380 for both bikes...
Job done. Just goes to show the difference you can get on a policy if your are prepared to (threat to) go elsewhere. Difference of £485.00 between the 2 quotes!!!!!
