Underseat Exhaust

Wonder if there anything to do with the BMW dealer I visited whilst in Germany http://www.fallert.com/index2.html

They are in neighboring post codes, a few miles from each other.
Maybe they are brothers that hate each other :mcgun, like the Adidas and Puma guys. Better not mention one to the other... :slideface

how does one ascertain UK road legality for this?

It'll be delivered with a certificate which - at least in Germany - avoids the necessity to get the new system 'inspected' and the addition entered into your vehicle documents :teacher . EG stands for 'Europäische Gemeinschaft', so one could conclude that it's valid EU-wide.

What a pair......love the symmetry...visually balancing the boxer engine beautifully.....and what a rear view? Ooops...need some tissue....
 
Is it just me? This fashion for underseat exhausts - they all look very nice BUT isn't the whole point of motorcycle design to get yer centre of gravity as low as poss. Putting one of the heaviest bits of yer bike up high seems a bit perverse:confused: Buell seem to be the only ones to have made a sensible decision and stick the zorst underneath the bike. OK not much use if you're going off road but that bike in the photo aint going to be doing that now, is it?
 
I've emailed them again asking for sound files. If I hear anything I'll post here.

I agree with Marty about the centre of gravity stuff, but all the same, they do look rather tasty. I seem to remember seeing an exhaust that was very stubby and was entirely under the bike itself, it was a Y shape I think. I wouldn't mind finding out a bit more about them too.

Really, why would most GP bikes have them under the seat then...:nenau :confused:

Are they not putting the mass in the middle/closer to the centre of the bike thereby improving COG...:nenau

It improves the aerodynamics and lean angles as much as anything.

Tricky having chunky metal tubes sticking out in inconvenient places. It also helps to extend some of the pipe length, to aid tuning. The difficulty comes in getting rid of the heat. Which is possibly why BuMW haven't gone in for it. The Ducrappi GP riders were getting burnt, not something that would go down too well with your average bloke on the Clapham omnibus. Can't see BuMW being too bothered by a bit of wind drag either. As to lean angles.........if only we could do something about those other two bits that stick out first.

It didn't bring Ron Haslam any glory (to the contrary,) art for arts sake I'm afraid, innovative yes, de rigueur, no...

The ELF's GP engine wasn't too great, I grant you, but Rocket Ron wasn't to blame.

Did alright in its endurance racing form though, if memory serves me right. Didn't it hold the world 500cc outright speed record at some time as well?

I guess we could say that the RC30 did OK too but that, of course, lacked an underseat exhaust, so I am not sure why I mentioned it.

Your memory serves you well but Ron could have done better on a less radical bike. Brave to race such an innovative design though......:bow

Possibly braver when he he raced the old Pharaoh 750 Yamaha?

Much under rated rider IMHO.

Anyway, back to the topic.....
