As a part of my idea to ride the German Motorcycle Route in full in 2026, I want (if possible) to visit as many UNESCO listed sites in Germany as I can manage.

This site has, if nothing else, been useful:

As has:

And not least:

What’s interesting about the UNESCO initiative is the eclectic mix of sites. Anything from cathedrals, through to iron ore mines. From stately palaces, to forests and lakes.

Thank you.

What’s passably interesting are the sites listed for possible future inclusion, and those that have been delisted. Not least, the currently listed 50 or so sites under immediate threat. As with TKMax, when it’s gone, it’s gone.

It will be the more unusual sites that we take a look at from studying the lists on the website....when we visit a town or city, we always have a mooch round the back streets and generally head for the Cathedral and gaze in awe at 'How the f... did they build this in 1237...' sort of thing.

It’s the ‘How and the why’ of cathedrals and tiny churches and chapels that is interesting.
