I bought a 2610 last year but never registered it. I am now getting a message saying my maps are more than a year old. If I haven't registered the unit, can i register it now and get the next version (9 or is it 10?) for free of charge? And if so, do I just send an email asking for the latest version?

edit; I just logged into MyGarmin and registered and it said the following under Map Updates:

"You are qualified to receive an update for the following product(s). Please select the update you want by clicking on the product.

Product Version #
City Navigator Europe 2008 Delxue DVD 2008 Release Date 12/01/2007 Ship Date 02/06/2008

Unlock codes for Update CDs are not available prior to the corresponding ship date (shown above)."

Should I just click that and order it?

why not?

Not sure if there is a newer version although it does appear that this is a fairly recent version. Anyhow - clicked the button, ordered the update DVD and it said to return in a few weeks once I receive the DVD to get my unlock code.:thumb2

You'll get an upgrade.. the thing is that the unit could have been sitting in a shop for months and months... and providing you haven't registered it I understand you can get the latest free ;)
