I have done about 10,000 km on this set of anakee 3s, back is very squared off but some tread left, front is definitely ready for a change. The noise of the 3s is very annoying, but other than that they grip well and didn't give me any surprises when my enthusiasm exceeded my ability.
I'm mostly out on irish back roads, grass growing up the middle etc, so like the 90/10 style which I think suits the shit nature of the Irish rural road network.
I'm minded to stick with the 3s, any thoughts on an alternative in that genre? :nenau

Dunlop Trail smarts.

Great Tyre and very good in the wet. (So should suit Ireland .. !!)

Tourance Next were an improvement on the annekee's, even though I liked the annekee's when I had them too!
I know all bout those roads!!!

I've just come back to the A3's myself, having tried a number of other options. My bike came with A3's and I changed them after 12k miles to a set of TKC70's, which didn't inspire as much confidence. They ran out about 11k miles so I put on some PR4's for the winter, which lasted 8k miles, and I actually found they were great in dry, but squared off quickly and after initial wet weather performance they fell off badly.

So have come back to the A3's had them back on for the last 1k miles and still think they are the best I've used so far. Mixed riding, motorways, back roads and Salisbury Plane off road trails all taken care of. Great tyre!

Anakee 2's were my replacement tire of choice for GS's so I was pleased that my 2014 came with Anakee 3's but I soon came to dislike them as they squared off within 2,000 miles which noticeably affected cornering. I was actually happy the rear wore down to the wear bars at 4,000 miles so I could shit can them and try something else. I heard a few grumblings on Tourance Next so I tried Conti Trail Attack 2's and I really like this tire. I've gone through 3 sets now and the fourth pair is here ready to mount in another thousand miles or so which will be close to 9,000 miles. Mileage at change on each of the three sets varied between 6,500-7,100 miles but in each instance there were another 1,000 or more remaining. They were changed before leaving on trips as not to have to buy replacements on the road. At replacement, the profile on the rear tyres were more rounded than the Anakee 3 was at 2,500 miles.

Hi clifton. How Much offroad / Road , have you been doing, on the Continental trail attack 2. I am going to change my pr4 next week, and i am looking for new type of tires. My pr 4 are complet squar. And i want some tyres that Can be used offroad too.

To be honest I don't take my GSA off road other than occasionally across the yard so I don't know but I think if you're off road on these tyres it better not be wet, or in sand. But they work great on pavement and last as long as any tyre I've had. Like Anakee 3's they work just fine on gravel and dirt roads that have any kind of base and I would think somewhat better than PR4's. For dirt, sand, and trails with mud holes I'd want something like Conti TKC 80's which worked well on a DR650 I had. TKC 70's (I've not tried) are a bit less aggressive than the 80 might be a good choice and should last a little longer than the 80's. TKC 80's will wear out twice as fast as TA2's and you'll lose some grip on tarmac, plus they're noisier.

fitted a set of Dunlop trail smarts to my 2015 Explorer yesterday. Been out and done 120mls this morning. Very nice tyre.

Tracks very nicely, picks the bike up under acceleration out of the corners beautifully, changes direction nicely. may have firm sidewalls and does make the bike feel a little choppy on the rough stuff. Didn't notice any excess noise. 176 pounds fitted the pair.

I'll let you know what they're like in the wet.

Not being an expert happy so far with A3s very similar to Conti trail attack 2s but hopefully longer life

Jeez, 10500 from a rear! I've only ever fitted Tourance Next and whilst I've always been happy with their performance I've only managed 4k each from three rears before they were squared off and just on the limit. I've just fitted a new set front and back but might try something different next time.

Only 4 000 miles on a tyre, something seriously wrong there.

My bike is also fitted with Conti TA2s and i get similar mileage to Daxaar without doing anything special, other than keeping the tyre pressure correct. They can be somewhat noisy on rough tarmac surfaces though.

Tourance next give excellent water dispersal but like all Metzlers they square off quickly. For longevity you can't beat K60 Scouts - I find they have just as much grip in the wet as the Tourances I used to use, it's only a GS after all ;)

Avon Trailriders fitted 700 miles ago. Can't fault them so far.

Do they still offer there puncture guarantee? After two punctures in six weeks on PR4's, I'm tempted to try the new Trailriders or return to TA2's, although mine only last 3500-4000 miles :P
