Can anyone help? I've upgrarded to v7 Europe CityNavigator, but when I try and activate an old route created in v6 the gps says something like "this does not align with existing maps" the maps in the gps now being version 7. it also asks if you would like to use anyway or recalculate. Neither option is good as the use anyway, ends up with completely straght sections not following the roads and recalculate ends up unusable.

Rather than recreate my old routes in v7, as I have a lot of them can someone tell me how I can easily update them to v7 and get them to run correctly.

I am using a 2610 and version 4.3 software and 6.5 Mapsource.

Arghhh someone else must have come across this....?

Right off the top of my head (not tried it) - try uploading them into your PC, then opening them in V7. It might give you the option to recalculate in Mapsource. If it does, it'll re-save them in a form that will be compatable with V7 maps...

I'll amaze myself if this works, but try it. On the unit, press Menu - Map Setup - Menu - System Setup - Enter then choose the Routing tab - under Route Preferences make sure you choose either "Faster Time" or "Shorter Distance". Sounds like you have it set to "Off Road" which would at least explain the "straight line".

When you say "no success" what happens when you try recalculating on the computer, rather than the GPS unit ?

I have just obtained a 276C which came with the same v7 City Select and have found exactly the same, the V7 maps have much more detail so Iv'e remapped all the routes, you'll see that the file format has also changed to GDB 2 format, a different one to V6.5 mapsource.

So the short answer is to redraw all your exisiting routes, just create a new route along the line of the old one but give it a different name, I just added 001 to the file name, when all are done simply delete the older routes, you will then have the route over the newer mapping.

had this with my unit when I put the v7 on, up from v6, what I did was clear the v6 map, then reset the map with v7 on, then sent this into the unit, deleated all my v6 routes, redone them in v7, and hey'up all was well,so give that a go mate,

Thanks Guys, tried all sorts and I think the best way in the end was to open the old routes in Mapsource click on the route tab, then click once on the actual route to highlight the name in blue. Then click the right hand mouse button, then click recalculate. hey presto then save the route and it automatically saves in new format.

Make sure before you do this that you have set the 'routing properties' (found under the edit menu) in Mapsoiurce to "Shortest distance" not fastest.

If you want to double check that the routes end up exactly the same as your old ones, follow as above but before recalculating, click duplicate route, then when youve recalculated it will show up yellow, whereas the old one is purple. (because it aint being worked on)

This is starting to sound all very technical, but it aint cause I did it!

I don't know if your problem still persists, but I had exactly the same happen to me yesterday, and your thread sprang to mind. The exact wording was:
This route does not match the available maps. It will not follow the roads precisely. Do you want to recalculate it? Yes, Recaulate. or No, Use It Anyway
I too have updated the maps to V7 and downloaded them to the unit, but the answer was a lot simpler than I had feared, and nothing to do with V7 etc. It turned out that the mapsets downloaded to the card just did not quite cover the whole route - there was approx 15 miles of the downloaded route which was not covered by the downloaded detailed maps sets - so it was using the detailed maps for most of the route, but the basemap for the rest.

If I'd used the "Select Maps Around Route" option this would not have happened, but I just downloaded a route without checking. Won't be doing that again. :P
