Upgrade maps or buy a new unit?

I've got a nuvi 250 for use in the car but is rarely used as I've got an inbuilt gps in my car.
I'm going to spain and need to use a hire car and want to take the nuvi with me.
The maps are 2009 and I really need the most up-to-date maps I can get.

Do I stick with the nuvi and buy an upgrade for £49 or go for a new gps unit?

I just want something that can get me from a-b as quickly as possible. The nuvi will do that now, to some degree, but I've looked at google maps and compared that with the mapping on the 250 and there seems to be 20 thousand new roads built since the 2009 mapping ... none of which are on my 250

So, upgrade the old unit or buy a new one

Oh, and if I did just upgrade the mapping I assume that the download will be too large for the 250

Any idea what size/type memory card I'd need?

I downloaded most of Western Europe including the UK and Ireland from Mapsource onto a 2GB card for the Nuvi 250. I only used about 1.3GB I think. That way the original 2009 maps are still in the Nuvi.

As a unit though it works but I'm not totally impressed with it (too interested in gadgets, I guess). I'm using a GPS 60CSX for the bike.

Simples, walk into any phone store and ask for a android phone, my htc has route 66 maps installed (no net connection needed) and i can 'buy' western europe for a month for £6.00 or a perpetual licence is £30. I pay £30 a month for the phone with unlimited internet acess. I Use the phone gps for work but I still use the old 2610 on the bike.

I'd reccomend goole navigation but you need a net connection for route calculation.

Be careful with the data download if outside your phone's home base country. You could get a nasty surprise bill, unless you buy a local SIM Data Card, which I think are not too expensive on a pay as You Go basis,

Tat's why i said to use route 66, maps are stored on the phone so no need to use any internet connetion, just tried it on my phone by switching all data connections off and it works fine. I will purchase the maps if i need to drive in europe.

I Prefer google navigation as its free tho

Took the old nuvi 250 with me hoping that the old maps would suffice and all worked brilliantly
