Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade the Garmin Street Pilot 3 by plugging into it a later wired GPS mouse? I'm not sure if they are just passive aerials or have a chipset in them like the bluetooth GPS mice do?

Cheers.

:rob (Garmin part 010-10139-00, 010-10052-04 ) was the GA26c/GA27c low profile remote antenna with cable and BNC connector and you'll need to try ebay as its unlikely that a Garmin reseller will stock it these days.

As others may mention, they were 3rd party antenna alternatives as well, but again its ebay vendors.

I've given up googling GPS aerials. The details of what is inside them are scant to say the least. They do appear to be just aerials, not surprisingly. They aren't going to suddenly make an old GPS unit see through tall buildings like a SiRF chipset seemingly can.

It might see a strange question, but if you use a PDA for example and buy a new bluetooth GPS mouse it does improve reception and performance as the chipsets are developed.

http://www.gilsson.com/gamin_gps/antennas/bnc.htm seem to know more than others on the subject, viz-a-vie the spec and signal gain of the antenna

I'm sold!

I've bagged an SPIII for peanuts and the tests certainly suggest that an active external aerial like the Glisson - or the Garmin model at a higher price - materially improves GPS reception and improves accuracy.

Cheers RAM-man.
