Upgrade, ya or nay?

I really hope they have a manual for me, besides this video, ASA is not my cup of tea.

Don't order a new bike before at least trying one with ASA, you might be surprised & like it!.

the one most people have

I'm not sure what you mean by "most people have".

How many people populate the "most people" gang?

Needless to say, my GS1300, loaded with most extras, has been faultless after approximately 5,000 miles. But if it starts to have problems, I know the dealer support will be there.

Right lads, took one for a spin on Saturday and here are my take aways (if you're interested)

1) I did get an ASA model, which I thought it was going to distract me a little bit but honestly... after the first start, it's fine. I got it in Manual and worked away through the gears normally. Changes are buttery smooth but still, not the option I would go for although I honestly, can't fault it.

2) My first impressions were not that great to be honest, sitting position wasn't comfortable to me, I was too pushed forward over the bars. Seat itself is much more firm and I totally see how folks are changing those for after market ones. Rattling sound out of the engine is bad, as mentioned above, it's pretty horrendous for an otherwise very refined and smooth engine. Speaking about the engine, I only had 4 modes available, ECO, Rain, Road and Enduro... I had it in Road and power felt OK but underwelming if I'm honest. Suspension in Road mode felt a bit too lose for me and too harsh in Dynamic. So far, I wasn't impressed.

3) We stopped and started playing with the menus, which are now quite a bit more complicated with things hiding under settings, etc... which I guess that once you know, you're good to go. Found how to get Dynamic enabled (I never ride my bike on anything other than dynamic), seemingly the bike only allows you to have up to 4 modes under the mode button, so I quickly got ECO out of the way for Dynamic... would anyone ever use ECO????
Then, I remembered seeing a video about the new tilt setting on the seat, so I changed that and went out again.
Now, I'm on a GS!!!! Sitting position came back to what I'm used to... bar risers (which this bike had) are a must and I'm not even a tall guy. Then, the power... having it in Dynamic, what a difference! Now I get the hype, specially coming out of the 1200, this one just keeps pulling throughout the revs, very impressive. Now, while not true in numbers, I still feel like my GS has more torque down below... I think it's just the feeling of it being more raw, more agricultural like that feels like the bike pulls more, maybe it's the sound of my Leo Vince exhaust, was it the automatic gearbox? Don't know... but it's no denying that the 1300 has a lot more grunt, more horse power. I'm impressed now.

4) Bike felt a bit more nimble, while I wouldn't say necessarily lighter. The adjustable ride hight seems to work OK, although in my own GS with the pre-load in auto and the seat in the low position I feel like I have about the same ground clearance that this when it lowers. Maybe there's more hidden options to control how low it goes, I don't know... suspension wise it's definitely a lot more XR and less GS, although I later found out that you can go -2 within dynamic, so hopefully that makes it a bit more compliant.

5) Overall, I'd say that it certainly is an upgrade. Bike feels much more refined and smooth, tons more of power and all the new safety features (if you spec them). Few things I'm not convinced, like why on earth they decided to move the ignition button from the middle of the yoke to the handle bars and made a bit of a mess with what used to be an easy to navigate menu and settings. Engine rattle is a tough one, even for me as a ear plug user, I guess I have too much mechanical symphaty... maybe you get used to it, but certainly a "why" in my book.

Will I buy one? While it wasn't a "shut up and take my money" moment, I'm definitely considering it. As above, there's a few things that definitely make me want to bite the bullet and there are a few others that made me say: "let me think about it".

For what it's worth, these are my two cents anyways.

afternoon all, most will be aware of my faults with both of my 13's which resulted in the first one being returned.

I have just returned from a 3000mile trip to the Pyrenees and my second 13 was absolutely faultless. Faith in the bike is restored.

Interesting part is my first 13 had issues from day one when i used the correct Optimate to trickle charge, my second puts up adaptive suspension errors everytime i leave the house, when i have been plugged into the BMW charger.

when i was on holiday obviously i did not use a charger and had zero faults.

regards

Barry

yep utter insanity - only 4 can be displayed - wot work of genius is that or does your 25 k bike really come with 1/4kb of ram on a 1 pence chip ?
how can any dealer let you out in lawn mower mode - how many go and buy something else as half the power and most of the features are missing on the one they tested ?

GS has a least 3 seats to pick from.. std, higher or even higher with comfort

keyless theft is designed to allow BMW to sell lots more (replacement) bikes - and of course the idea first started out to aid Lithuania, by growing its economy so it could join the EU (selling used vehicle spares on ebay)

You kind of lost me half way.... alright.

u spoke about rider modes and then discovered yourself - only 4 display at a time regardless of how many you paid for

there are three seat heights available on the configurator - plus a comfort version of each (making 6 ?)

a country's economy has to show signs of promise / meet certain factors before it can join the EU - theft and dodgy accounting gets you there - the idea is to get more countries to join so they can thieve from a greater populous

once upon a time (25 years ago) we invented yet another way to attack russia - by undermining a democratically elected russia leaning ukraine - that was deliberatly left as a safe buffer zone between western corruption and russian sanity - the BBC did its usual part misinforming the British lemmings (and much of ROW) and over the next 14 years we had created the opportunity for mass murder of mostly russians living in the eastern 1/3 of ukraine - putin ever the diplomat tried via the UN and other channels to highlight the genocide - but the British government, the media circus and money laundering led by sorros spun the lies and mischief

donald not one to miss a trick got the plot out there in 2015, after biden's junkie son left his lap top of the obama / UK mischief out there and donald became president just to stop the fake NATO war those evil scum had been preparing against russia - in came multiple fake elections and Donald has to unravel the now Nuclear plot against russia yet again - as Boris, his mates and Zelenskyy personally put 200 billion each of your money in their pockets

Ya, I meant that you lost my interest by going political. We're here to talk about bikes.

its kind of matters for the next month - then there will be no bikes or pretty much anything else.....

hence why I said might as well get one

the other choice - some crook will suggest more opportunities to drag it out and con some other mugs of their last pennies

^^^^^this. Back to the 1300GS. I haven't had the chance to ride the 1300RS ASA (Some dick managed to drop the demo bike at NOG) to compare it with the 1300GS ASA ref the noise coming from the engine. However a chap who has a 1300GS had a test ride on the new 1300RS and claimed the engine is less noisy and the gear box is smoother (14 min in the video) ? Don't understand how is that possible unless they made some changes to the engine.

Well... if that gets any kind of confirmation and they have in fact done improvements, maybe there would be a recall in the future for the GS?

rampant speculation based on rampant speculation based on what some chap said. The current 1300GS sounds great

The 1200/1250 GS water cooled had a number of modifications in the first year so it is likely that some mods have already been carried out on the 1300 and the September model may be different? The "foam" on the front engine of a BMW R1200GS (oil head) while intended to reduce engine noise, was actually contribute to corrosion by trapping moisture and dirt against the engine casing. Would BM make the same mistake again?
Personally I am happy with my 1250 and will wait an other 2 years. Hopefully they bring back the red color :D
