Has anyone done this ?, and if so, what do you think ?

Also, as I understand it, the 590 is Garmin's own version of the Nav V.................. (I know they are both made by Garmin). The question is....... does the 590 fit in the GS's LC mount ?

Looking at pictures on the net, it looks like the 660 - 590 - Nav V all have the same mounting points.

If it is a straight plug in job on the existing WC mount, I may be tempted to sell my two 660's.................................

The Nav V fits into a 660 mount and visa-versa. As the new device is based on the Nav V, it's hard to see why it shouldn't fit.

There are lots of reviews of the Nav V, the vast majority positive. It's safe to assume that the reviews of its sister device will be just as glowing.

Nav V
W x H x D: 13.6 x 8.3 x 2.4 cm

zūmo® 660LM

5.3"W x 3.3"H x .9"D (13.5 x 8.4 x 2.3 cm)

590

5.12"W x 3.7"H x 1.18"D (13.0 x 9.4 x 3.0

As Richard has pointed out the Nav V (without the 4 button thingy) will fit in a locking TT 660 mount as I have one

but looking at the size of the 590 that 9.4 H would suggest to me that it wont fit in a TT locking 660 mount

that's why I bought a Nav V and not a 590

I haven't actually done it yet, but I have investigated and compared the two units (660 and 590) pretty carefully.

The 590 does present some advantages - the screen is a bit easier to read in bright sunlight (you don't need a sun-shade), the processor is a lot faster, and the user interface is more 'Nuvi-like', in the sense that it incorporates all the little tweaks and enhancements that Garmin has made to their user interface during the past 3 years.

On the other hand, the 590 does present one major disadvantage (to me): It doesn't support a FM traffic receiver. Garmin is going down the path of fetching all sorts of data (traffic, weather, parking space availability, etc.) from the user's cell phone, via a Bluetooth connection to the 590. This might have benefits to riders who stay within the coverage area of their cell phone data plan (and who have a cell phone data plan), but it is a deal-killer for me. I ride through many different countries, and I would get bankrupted by cell phone roaming fees if I had to rely on cell network data (rather than a stand-alone FM receiver) for traffic info.

My personal take is that the Zumo 660 still has lots of life left in it. It accepts the tiny little SD cards for map storage, which means we won't get squeezed into an end-of-life situation due to lack of capacity to store the ever-increasing size of the European map package.

After giving it a lot of thought, I have come to the conclusion that it's just not worth the substantial price to upgrade from a 660 to a 590. To me, that would be a bit like jumping from one model of iPhone to the very next model. If I had to buy a new GPS (for example, if the 660 died or got stolen), I would certainly buy a 590, but I can't see enough benefit in the 590 to warrant upgrading from the 660 just because the 590 is out.

There's another thread on here which says it doesn't fit the nav v mount. Something is too big but doesn't say what, the mount or the unit.
Either way, my personal view is that if you have the 660 or a nav v this isn't an upgrade. The other units have loads of life left.
I've recently purchased 4 390lm navs for work bikes and to be quite honest, they are simply brilliant. Fast, bright, and with built in speakers which you can actually hear quite well even at speed.
