I'm fairly happy with my cheapo Nuvi 255 but for an upcoming offroad Africa trip I'm thinking of getting the more serious 60CSx.

  • Will I be able to transfer the Garmin maps I have (Europe, Morocco, India) to the 60 via my.garmin.com ?
  • Can I still use the 60 for "normal" GPS use like punching in the address of a shop on the other side of town ?
  • I'm guessing that once in Africa and when out of range of the Olaf Morocco maps, navigation will be solely via waypoints ? What kind of maps of Africa are available for his device, if any? I keep reading about "base maps" but am not 100% sure what these are.

Thx

  • no

  • yes, but no postcode search

  • the base maps is the basic map that comes pre-loaded with the gps. short on detail, and i doubt euro units include much of africa.

not a hundred percent true if you have maps that can do a postcode search on the PC, then you can on the 60 as well.

do a normal search for an address on the 60 but put in the postcode instead of an address

interesting. i didn't know that.

so you just put in the postcode instead of the first address line? i must try it as i am using CN 2010 :)
