Upgrading the horn on a 2008 GS

slow progress, but compressor in place between tank and VIN / chassis number plate. Clears forks in all positions. If someone wants picures please explain me how to post attachements, currently I'm not allowed to.

...
On my previous 2006 model I'd fitted a pair of Stebel Magnums but on the 2008 model with the ESA this was not an option owing to the reduced space available

Do you know if I could fit a SINGLE Stebel Magnum horn in place of the regular horn on my 2008 GS (with ESA), just by replacing it ?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

It seems that way, found on NN by following your link :
The best way to connect the Stebel horns to your BMW using the existing horn connection.
Note: only suitable for the Stebel Magnum horns in black or chrome. The Nautilus Compact and Magnum Twin Pack are too large for the latest BMW's but are suitable for all of the 1150's and 1100's. Also for hard wiring other accessories if you can find a suitable lead unused on the bike.

This kit fits:
F650GS (08 on)
F800S/ST/GS
R1200GS/ADVENTURE all years including mark 2 versions
R1200RT
R1200ST
R1200S
R1200R
K1200R
K1200S
K1200GT ('06 on)

Can't give you a definitive answer but my first thought was the position of the horn on the 2008 GS would limit fitting a horn the size of the Magnum.

The horn is now positioned on the right side of the bike between the side panel and the engine. If you take a look you will be able to see what I mean.

Your first impression was right, it cannot be a straight replacement for OEM, we tried today. We will wait to see if someone has an idea about where to fix the thing.

Magnum will fit just

Hi guys, to add my two penneth worth, 2008 GSA and I fitted a Magnum where the oem horn was, had to put a dog leg bend in the mounting bracket and with a little swearing and holding your breath it will fit, just. I used a canbus kit from Nipp's so re installing oem horn will be a snip!:clap

I am sure it would work on a "straight" 08 GS too. But not on an ESA version... ESA takes a lot of room...

finished my (06 1200GS) installation. To recap i took the compressor unit out of the nautilus horn, and clamped the horn onto the upper part of the front fork, using a bit of double sided tape to keep it there. You'll need to cut off / sand down the air inlet connection. To connect it up electrically i just soldered wires to cut off sewing needles. You'll need to try the needle size, it easy to determine if you have the right diameter. Used shrink sleaves and tape to finish it of. Compressor is mounted as described before, but it just fits there. Hardly room for the tie wraps, and I'm not 100% happy with the interference between tie wraps and the new hose going to the horn. But hell it works! In the end decided though to use the Nautilus truck horn on the car, and the higher pitch standard one on the bike (both will easily fit on the fork, and are now easily interchangable)
I'm not sure what Stebel uses, but my 'truck' one came with a compressor housing in black (less visible on the bike) while the standard one came with a shiny metal housing. Both came with M10 bolts which would fit nowhere on the horn.. let alone on the bike, and a plastic bit of which I still don't know what it is intended for..
Plan B might be to put the compressor on the front wind screen mouting brackets. I've modified (shortened) the windscreen as per another thread on this forum, tilted it furter backward, and have have more then sufficient room there now.
