I've got a feeling that this is going to be a very stupid question but, here goes :o

I'm off on a ride to Turkey next month and have, with the help of my 16 year old daughter, set up accounts with Photobucket and Live Journal in order for me to write a blog of my travels and upload photos.

Now the stupid question bit.

In order to upload a piccie from my camera into Photobucket I need to connect it up to a computer (I understand that bit!) - is an Internet Cafe going to allow me to connect up an external device to one of their computers? Will I be able to do this? If not, how do I upload piccies when travelling?

Many thanks
Andres

There are some that will let you plug memory cards into readers to do this and some will let you put USB memory sticks in to download any emails or work you have done. So you may be able to work round it that way. Are you taking a lap top too?

No, I wasn't intending taking my laptop.

I didn't think of card readers, I was assuming I'd have to plug my camera in via USB - Thanks Dahoum.

Camera or card plugged in to a USB port is likely the only way to go.

Mind you, in the backwoods I wouldn't be surprised to find that the internet cafe is running Win95 on a 386 :eek

:nono In the backwoods, there ain't no law and as long as they're online, you can be pretty much guranteed that they'll be running XP.

If you're using a camera that gets seen as a removeable mass storage device then there's no benefit in using a card reader into the PCvia USB 'cos that's exactly what the card reader will be seen as as wel....so you might as well just plug the camera in ;)

Last year I couldn't find anywhere that would let me plug anything into any internet cafe or hotel PC. :(

That was in Spain and France.

I suppose you can see their point, how do they know that whatever device you have is virus free? :nenau

I bought an Apacer to write my camera cards to a CD so I could send piccies back of our trip, upload the web site etc.

Load of tosh... bust within three weeks. We ended up going into the towns and cities, find a camera shop, they would download off the memory card to a CD for next to nowt... then any internet cafe would let us use our CD's to send piccies back!

My advice is to get cards with plenty of storage, dive into any large town, card to CD and then internet... :bounce1

Thanks all, especially Micky - that would seem to make a lot of sense :thumb

As an afterthought Andres.... if it's going to be a real memorable trip (aren't they all!) copy to TWO CD's and keep them SEPARATE !!

As old pal 'Jimb' (UKGSER) says... digital media doesn't exist until it's stored in THREE places! So two CD's and on the memory card if it's big enough!

We couldn't be arsed on our trip, although we spoke of it, it was too much trouble at the time :nono our CD's were stolen from the hotel room in Almety

Luckily we'd e'mailed some of the better piccies back to my brother on Fairisle who kept the website updated :clap
But we lost some good piccies :(
