Hi all,

up until about 3 hours ago, a mate and I were planning on leaving for Portugal on Wed for 2 weeks on our 800GS on the trails. That plan has now changed and our fallback is Denmark & Norway for 2 weeks.

Given the time of year, can anyone lend any advice on things to do and see (and avoid). Also interested if there is any dirt opportunities or would it be more sensible change back to road tyres (currently shod with TKCs).

Cheers,
Rod

Hi Rod, Norway is beautiful riding - non-stop mountains, lakes, forests and waterfalls. Hardly any traffic, and even the main roads are very twisty, so expect to take a bit longer to cover the miles, and fill up with fuel in good time. The population density is very low, and gives Norway a bit of a wilderness feel. You may well end up taking lots of short ferry hops across fjords to save 50-mile detours. Climate in S. Norway is roughly similar to Scotland

Trollstigen pass is a memorable ride

Have a great time!

Hi guys,

thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.

Another question, should we keep the TKCs on in the hope of finding some trails or is it better to fit road rubber?

Are there many bike legal trails in Norway?

You´ll have a blast, Rod. Lot´s of great roads and not much traffic if you avoid the month of july. Be aware of unmarked patrol cars and radar traps. Fines are very(!) expensive.

It´s not easy to find legal trails, but there are tons of fantastic dirt roads!

Feel free to email me, if you need more specific information.

Depends where you're going. Off-road riding is a hanging offense. Plenty of gravel in the SE and in the mountains, less on the West coast. And that's where you want to go for the ooohs and aaaahs. You'll be fine on e.g. Tourance, but TKCs also work everywhere.

PM Liv, Norway just incase he does not see this

Liv know a good guide; Thor! :thumb2
Liv is not so often here anymore.

But, ok:
If you like narrow roads and a view to fjords from hairpins; vestlandet (SE, as Thor call it) = the area on this map: http://www.mattern-bua.org/KartVest.htm

All I know like that area, except those who are afraid of hights and narrow roads.
This is the area 'all' tourist love too, but if you follow the smallest roads you hopefully avoid sone of the camper vans.

:) Liv.

I don't know much about legal trials, but this is a breathtaking gravel road: http://maps.google.no/maps?f=d&sour...=62.537028,8.353729&spn=0.292598,0.87204&z=10
I have been there twice, riding my sidecar. Most of my 2-wheel-friends does not dare to ride it because of the gravel. But I did because of my extra wheel!
try it, if you like gravel, hairpins and view! :thumb2

Go with Road/trail combo (Tourance) TKC will not be needed as the roads are excellent and there is limited off road options. (Mostly gravel, and likely little or zero mud)
