GOT THIS PM FROM CIVIL ANYONE KNOW AN ANSWER?

I dont have time to search for the answer.
Will you do a search and find if anyone has
experiance of fueling problems with their 1200
It is like its running outa petrol .
I have had it reset in Bilboa . but i am now in madrid and its broke again.
Some of teh 1200 guys must know what this is
andthe Cure . Pump ? mapping ? Brain ?
Would appreciate answer , as it may determine
the course of action.
I have located garage ,but would like to knwo
Will be on for 10 mins if not here pkls text

Im certainly no expert matey but tell him to look at hte plug thingy down by his left leg, perhaps reseat it.
do the throttle thing too
switch ignitioin on, full throttle and back twice
switch off and then restart.

thats the total of my knowledge but I spose he's already done those.

he's had the bike to BMW in spain and the guy reset the thing but the macanic seem to think it may be a Brain / pump issue thing... but i'm sure someone on here will know.

p.s. redcastle he did the throttle reset thing... no good :(

sound like it could be the fuel pump sender unit ...the seals are faulty on a lot of bms and continue to be after two years :spitfire the housing fills up with water and corrodes the unit well worth checking i think
mine was done under warranty i belive its located under the false tank panels...round cover .... any one to confirm

also check the conections to the exhaust sensors ..the plugs from the exhaust with a wire to under the pots one each side on the headers they are not the best connections one of mine came off so it was easy to spot but if ones loose you may just get lucky

Ask him when he starts it and revs it in neutral does it run bad? If so, ask him to rev it again with the clutch in. If it runs a bit better it is probably a fault with the switch on the left hand side to the back of the cylinder. Its around 60 Euros for the part.

That's great news. Did he ask the garage to separate the water from the fuel for him to pick it up on the way back home?

LMAO!
ahh sure he'd have changed it into wine wouldn't he?

(glad he's sorted though :thumb )

I would have tried to help if I had any idea what the problem was. All I saw on the main forum section was " URGENT!!! CIVIL NEEDS HELP" and I thought "Tell me something I don't know!" :D

Glad he and Billie are back on the road, I'm sure he'll call in here and some point with a full report! :thumb

How did the water get in there? :nenau

Better keep the fuel tank well full until return to Uk (water will settle in the bottom) then dump the contents completely and refill with clean fuel.

Jaysus can someone delete this before Cvil sees it? The very idea of dumping a tank of fuel would kill him!     :D

tuned, if civil is in contact, tell him to make sure the drain from the fuel filler cap is clear...blow through from other end...reason i'm saying is my 1150adv had water in the fuek tank, and i know this as i watched the damn stuff flow in there when i went to fill up...

the drain was blocked...not the actual rubber hose, but the 1.5mm hole leading to it, and when opened fuel cap, a good 1/4 cup flowed in...interferred with the fuel indicator display...so tank off, and pissed around for half an hour trying to get every last drop out...simple things...might just be that, as mine regularly blocked...and i just didnt look daft enough on my hands and knees blowing through a rubber tube before filling it ata petrol station...aye

i suppose if there had been enough in there, the fuel pump would have been the next thing..

:thumb this guy is on his holidays

why the f**** :spitfire do they still turn out these gses with the same old problems it seems im an expert on breakdowns ...

surely surely they should have recalled the lot of them ???or have they
...never told me if they did.... 05and 06 :nenau

anyway the moral of the story is everone check :thumb

apparently they let in bit by bit and the connectors rust go green and ecventually fall to bits internally .mine looked like it had been submerged in a pond for six months .. didnt have me camera ..unuasually

it seems our unfortunate mate was in the state of transition [ fual sender not sexuality] unless someone knows different

any one on the forum got some pics of where and how so some poor sod doesnt get his well planned grand tour pissed all over ??? :nenau

there was a posting some time ago with pics but ive tried a search and missed it ...or its in the archives somwhere??i being a trusting sole.. presumed on the o6 bike the problem would have been addressed........................... ..wrong...

moderators please dig if you can to aviod the above for the members that are not aware ..what is the diy cure ???

best regards steve :thumb

Don't think it is the actual pump .. but the CAN buss controller that sits on top of the pump.

You could directly wire the pump to the battery- no CAN buss .. no key .. will flatten the battery if you leave it that way but the bike should run. Not elegant but would work.

Lots of water in the fuel will block the fuel filter.. you could run with out one but your risking blocking your injectors - a lot more time and $$ to fix. I've run using a 'normal' car carby type fuel filter .. not the best but in a pinch will do.

---- The biggest problem is finding out what is wrong. After that fixing/going around it is easy.
