Well I'v really cocked up this time ! After seeing my friends 2010 GS, I ordered a set of 4 LED mini indicators from BMW for my 04 GS, picked them up yesterday, and thought maybe 10 mins each to fit.
Now I am not that hot on taking things apart, but have just come out of my garage after damm nearly dismantling the front end to see where the wires go. I can now see they disapear into THE MAIN WIRING LOOM:eek:
My bike is now in bits and I am stuffed. I should have left well alone.
I think I will struggle just to get the lights, screen etc. all back in place, but at the same time am I that far from finding the end of the wire ? I have not even started the rears yet. What do I do ? Any help would be appreciated, I would even be happy to pay for someone to come and sort it out. I'm sorry I started ! :blast

Dismantle ...

... the indicator end, rather than trace into the loom; freeing the wiring at this end will be simpler, then reattach your new indicators :comfort

Caveat: This worked on an 1150, but mine isn't filled with canbus fluid.

You just cut the wires off at the indicator and re-attach to the new indicators. Not elegant but pretty simple.

Sounds like a good simple solution.
The bm kit comes with all sorts of adapters and plugs.
If I simply cut and reconnect, is it important to get red and black right, because they are the same colour coming off the original indicators. If I connect it wrongly could it blow anything ?

Happy to help out if you want im in Guildford by the way the rears are wose to fit!

That would be great, but do I get over to you, or do you mean you could come over to me ? (bike is in bits) I am just off J6, M25, nr. Caterham.

On closer inspection the wires are brown and blue under the sheathing on the new indicators, and the old ones are all black - but it is a covering tape. I assume they are colour coded under the tape, so should match up.

With the rears, how far do you have to dismantle to get access to the wires ? It looks like you could go in from the top or the underneath - any tips ?

Brown is earth. On the rears if I remember rightly I just unscrewed the old ones, cut the wires and connected/crimped the new ones. You get to the wires from underneath.

Thanks all for the info. A 1 hour job turned into about 5 hours !
The rear was awful, no slack on the cable, so everything had to come off. Never done it before, but just keep taking things off until you can unplug the rear light unit and remove. All went back ok, with no bits left over (not the norm). The indicators do look good though, even if my wife said they look the same.:blast
Thanks again and it just shows keep it simple if poss.:clap
