I am thinking of buying a used(private) 550...
The story is; The owner has had it for nearly 2 years, he sold the bike..No equipment with it, nothing at all, no cables, no mounts, just the unit, with UK and Euro maps loaded and a 1g SD card...
He claims that it works...how I don't know if there are no cables with it??

If I buy it how can I get updated maps(if needed)?
TIA..

I would be concerned as it has nothing else with it.

Surely there is a disk at least!!.

The unit serial number should be on the outside so at least check that with garmin but even so the expense of purchasing the other items may far outweigh the benefit - if any.

So you are asking on a public forum whether it is morally ok to buy stolen goods?

I wonder if any of our Law Enforcement members would like to give you a response?

Remember buying stolen goods supports crime but then again you might not care :nenau

dodgy

Sounds a bunch of bollox to me,im guessing he's ripped that off some ones bike a while back, wake up and sniff the kenco fella,no cables, charger, mount, lol give it a swerve.......:Motomartin

I do care about buying stolen goods...from an ethical standpoint...and if it is stolen and it doesn't work then I am stuffed....
I have the powered mount already so that is not a problem..
I wondered if it was stolen and I try to register it with Garmin, they might not be too happy??
Perhaps i will give this one a wide berth, even though I have no reason to be suspicious!:augie:

What is the difference between the Nuvi 550 and the Zumo 550?

Agree with the big lad :D It does have an unfolding saga about it and we've been here before with others who have spotted a fleabay bargain. How many times must we say .. A Tosser and his beer tokens can be easily parted :augie

Seems strange to sell the bike, leave on mount, cradle but keep the unit, ask if seller if they have the garmin registration code , if no .. then walk away ... if yes, then ask for it so you can vaildate ownership to seller.

nice

stolen from the back of a truck maybe....But fcuk, nice to know a fellow biker is happy to buy a sat nav that could have been taken from a fellow bikers pride and joy, which if as you described ie no cables, leads mount or anything else,is probably the case...........Give it some thought.....:rob

I cannot believe that you are actually saying all this.

So if it is stolen and it does work -- that is ok then:eek:

mental note to myself - never buy anything from this guy 'cos it may be stolen.

big man

Jim's 1200rt has the mount and cable already on it.so this suggests to me that people do sell there bikes without taken the bits off:augie or are going to assume that some fucker nicked that to.so slaging the bloke off without knowing him is a bit uncalled for.he only asked a question in good faith.:augie

Thanks Dave... If some of the others had bothered to read my subsequent post before jumping in with crap comments...then they would have realised that I was not happy to buy it in case it was stolen.

As for 'mental note, never buy anything from this guy' You can piss right off!!!! You are out of order!!

There is an old adage that states: "He who can't trust, can't be trusted"
