Before I finally take the plunge and invest £600 in an SP3;

Will I be able to update the maps or whatever it is you have to do with my Apple Mac or am I stuffed unless I get a PC?

Please help as I am thinking of treating myself this week.

Thanks.

My GPSV works ok from my Mac using Virtual PC 5 on OSX.

I did have trouble getting the serial adptor to work but found a script on the Connectix site that enables Lego Mindstorm toys that works a treat at making the connection reliable.

I'm not sure if the usb card whatsit of the III works ... I'm tempted to invest so would love to hear any success stories.

Virtual pc

I,ve got a i book, and was woundering about getting virtual pc,
read various threads saying its very slow or worse,
dont know what to do really ! so will watch this space.

Not being a computer whiz I only understood half of that. Never heard of virtual PC. I am running a 2 year old iMac using OSX 10.1 I think, I also have OS9 loaded on it which I just use to run outlook Express for my emails.

Does nobody with an SP3 run an Apple???????????????????????

I am dying to get an SP3 , Staples are running out fast, I've just bought a RAM mount but there is no point in spending £500 if it won't work properly!!!!!

Somebody help!?

I've an iBook [600mhz] and a 176C.

I've tried VPC and it's so slow as to unuseable taking 5min+ to draw a map of England.

The link between iBook and 176 via a serial/usb adaptor is appallingly slow on the very are occasions I got it to work. I have to ask friends running windows to load maps onto my datacards.

This very day I have brought a second hand PC of eBay for £65. It appears at the moment to be working well and I've no reason to think that's going to change.

It redraws map many, many times faster than VPC. It remains to be seen how it fares in the up/down load stakes, but I confident.

In short, stop messing around trying to run Mapsource on your mac and go buy a second hand PC.

Agree with Mr Boxer here, I'm afraid. I'm running an iBook with OSX (latest version) and VPC is a complete waste of time on my machine. It takes w-a-a-a-y too long to do anything useful.

I'm lucky, and had an old company laptop that no-one wanted back when I left (:) ) so I'm using that. 100% better.

Reckon the way forward is to get an old laptop and load MapSource onto that.

Cheers

As some of you know VPC is a WINDOWS emulation application for Apple Macs. It runs pretty slow when it comes to anything to do with graphics. (depending on RAM). I am a mac devotee but saying this I also have a PC (can get a cheap 2nd hand one for next to nothing) to do the things PC's do so well. ie. Web Dev & Games. (that's about it ;) ) If you are serious about using your GPS and need to upload alot, get yourself a PC if not stick with the excrusiating VPC grind. Unfortunatly Mac users are still a minority and developers don't even consider us for most things. :( Lets hope with the new Unix driven OSX that someone will come up with a solution soon.
