When Mrs Aw climbs aboard the bike she twists her left foot on the pillion peg rubber. The rubber gives and eventually tears away from its fitting. I’ve tried glue and cable ties and duck tape but it never lasts. I can’t find any specific aftermarket foot pegs, except some super expensive Rizoma stuff despite the fitting being common across loads of Moto Guzzi and Aprilia bikes***. These other bikes either have a similar mounted rubber pad that will get damaged in the same way as the original or just a knurled spike really which I’m sure she won’t be happy with.

What I’m after is some that a broad with a rubber pad inset into the metal frame. Puig, Tizoma, and a few others do the platform but only Rizoma do the bike specific adapter.

Any ideas anyone.

***. Griso, Stelvio (old and new), Mandello, Breva and more. Tuono, Caponord, Tuareg, shiver and others. In fact almost every sports & adv bike from MG and Aprilia use the same fitting.

Well the obvious and correct solution is not to bring her on the bike. If you really have to bring her I’d suggest those very heavy duty cable ties wrapped around the peg as tight as possible. JJH

I thought that you were considering a new one as per Wrinkley’s recommendation?
It won’t solve the pillion peg issue but it’ll be shiny and have fresh rubbers on said foot pegs.

How much are the rubbers and how long do they typically last?
Are they interchangeable left to right?

What about wrapping it in something like grip tape, used on Tennis rackets, fishing rods and the like. Wrapping it entirely around the rubber & metal base to hold it 'as one'. And the tape should take the wear, and prevent the rubber twisting.

Get a bit of car radiator hose and hammer it on from the end.

I need her when we go travelling to do my laundry. Tried big cable ties. They sorta work as an interim solution but I was after something more elegant.

Nah, I’m still keeping this one for a while. Its a good in and I’d get bugger all part ex or sale as it’s high mileage now (37,300 and rising).

Rubbers, posted cost about a tenner each. A new one went on 5 weeks ago when set off to Sardinia and is completely knackered now. I’ve a spare to put on and yes interchangeable.

Another good idea but as above I was after something more elegant.

I’ve some SW motech pegs I got used for me so something that looks vaguely similar would be perfect.

I was wondering if anyone had found a product for one of the myriad of Guzzis and Aprilias that have the same fitting.

get her to change how she gets on !
or put solid pegs on ?
You don’t think I haven’t suggested that. Jeez you’d think I’d insulted her the way she reacted. Solid pegs…like on a Griso? I’ve got a Griso too which has solid pegs but they’re thin little things and she’s taken one look and said she’ll slip on them. Nevertheless I’m going to try a swap.

What footwear is she wearing? Maybe a change to those runner type of motorcycle wear might not be as abrasive? JJH

do you love her , cannot do without her , shags like a rabbit , cooks like a chef , keeps house like a concierge ?
then i'd keep buying the rubbers , keep her happy. or get her boots with a flat sole not a heavy treaded boot .
i've never heard of anyone damaging those rubbers before .
do 85tt front pegs have a rubber insert in cleated pegs ? like the 1150gs had ?

Thanks for all the ideas. Wessie’s would work best. Have you got a link for that? I couldn’t see it on touratech or wunderlich.

Her boots have a smooth sole but do have a heel of about 1” and I think the damage is done getting off rather than on. She won’t have it that she’s doing anything wrong as it never used to happen on other bikes, which is a fair point, but she is adamant she can only get on and off the way she does. It’s more difficult for her with the panniers on. I think she hooks the heel on the peg for security and then twists as she stands on her left leg and pivots off twisting the rubber as she turns. Maybe new boots is the answer.

The rubbers on the pegs are big cushioned jobs. I think they are common to the V7 as well but are different (at least look different) to those on the Stelvio, Mandello and the touring/adv CARC models. On these bike the rubber looks less squishy and is set further into the peg itself. One of those would probably do.

I think the rider pegs will fit into the mounting bracket but obviously can’t be locked in place as they don’t have the hole for the ball bearing and spring to lock them up or down. But a bolt and a couple of wavy washers rather than a clevis pin might just nip up the the bracket enough to provide an interference fit to stop them flopping about. Some sort of re-useable cable tie could hold them up when I really want them out the way. I’ve got aftermarket rider pegs anyway (SW motech in first pic) so the originals are available to easily experiment with. Then the world is my wife’s lobster for her to choose her pegs.

I think you need to go to an agricultural supplies company to get a block & tackle as farmers and vets will use them to assist various ungulates[1] to get back on their feet after having a fall.

[1] if any of you are thinking old cow right now, then that would be very disrespectful to Mrs W and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Here’s the standard rider pegs offered up. I need a cap head bolt and it’ll have a stainless nyloc nut but it works. It’s stiff enough that they won’t flop about. Wife wants pegs like my rider pegs which it turns out are SWMotech Ion pegs.

Pic 1 with the rubber removed as it’s even less of secure fit than the pillion

Here’s how the pillion rubber gets ripped.
