Value for money?

Hi

Recently sold my Varadero and am looking for an 1150 GS/A but have had a bit of a suprise when looking at what I get for the money. For about £4300 I have looked at a 2001 1150GSA with ABS, decent kit, expected pitting etc, fsh and about 40,000 mls compared to a 2005 Varadero with ABS, fully kitted, fsh, showroom condition on 15,000 mls. However maybe I just haven't found the right GS yet? I suppose the test is when I come to resell.

what do you mean by pitting??? of the head??? or the forks???

There was pitting on the forks and some corrosion/flaking on the engine.

I would guess that an '01 1150 with 40,000 would go for around £3000 on E bay.

maybe you are talking about a dealer price ?

I have seen a real nice '01 with 6000 miles go for £5000 and have just bought an '05 1150 GSA with 13,000 miles from £6000 from a fellow GSer

I think its a great time to buy one, I still have my old '01 that has done 90,000.
In many ways its still a better bike than the new one and has cost very little in running costs/depreciation.

BMWs do seem expensive ( I could have bought a new 1250 bandit for £5200)
but I dont think I could ever be happy with a Jap bike now.

maybe its my engineering background, but they look so cheaply made and poorly finished.

Engine paint is an issue - but you try getting it off ! can only think that it is in a very hostile enviroment.
