Hi,
I have a new 1200 GS that is a little noisy. It has just had its first service at 600 miles; from new, there was a slight valve rattle at 2500-3200 rpm that went away under accel, having picked it up from service, it is now much noisier from 1800 -3400 rpm, and a little annoying. Above this rpm though there is no noise and it pulls well, but it is annoying in town, having a new bike that attracts looks because of a rattle. Anyone else have this? I can do the tappets myself, but why should I on a new bike?!

Regards

Take it back to the dealer. At £10K - £11K I wouldn't think about doing the tappets - the dealer should. :nono They should have also put 20/50w oil in at the service which, if anything, would quieten the engine.

Anyway, tappets aren't normally a 'rattle' - its more of a very loud clicking.

Yes, you are right, it is more of a clicking than a rattle, but it is defenitely tappets. They did not put 20/50 in either, 10W40!
Cheers
