Hi all.

I've read a guy who adjust the valves of his R1100S to 0.30 intake and 0.35 exhaust. I decided to try this on my R1150GS with good results. More engine noise (always wear earplugs. best mod to my GS :D ever), a softer engine, revs better with less vibes. I installed to my GS a 3.5 bar fuel pressure regulator two years ago, with not big improvement.

What do you think about this mod? Did you try it before?

Comments are welcome!
Cheers.

Not heard of this one before. You are changing the valve overlap/timing a little which may account for the softer engine.
Where did you hear about this mod.Did it come from a sensible source or a born fiddler?.
What did it do to the fuel consuption and top speed/acceleration.
At least you shouldn't suffer from burnt, tight valves now but you'd better have some good earplugs.:D

Really don't see any point in larger clearances.
More "slop" thats why it's noisier.
Valves will open later & close sooner, so an all round less efficient engine. (softer? maybe)

The valve tip was from Rob Lentini is the US, micapeak I think. I have run this for a while and am really not sure of the difference anymore.

Steptoe is servicing the bike on the w/e, maybe I will see a difference when the clearances are reset to normal.

As for increasing the clearance and increasing wear - any comments?

:nenau

If you haven't altered the intake and/or exhaust and/or fuel injection mapping and/or valve timing with different camchain angles and sprocets, then you ought to stay in the OEM spec, which is 0.15mm intake, 0.30mm exhaust.

If you did altered, then yes, on dyno machine you look for the best valve clearance fit. Otherwise, stay into the spec, IMHO anyways. Dinted pistons or burnt or bent valves or broken valvesprings aren't good idea to have in the middle of nowhere...
