My GS is overdue it's 24000 miles service by quite a few miles and I think it's feeling a bit ropey due to this, but the front end feels v.vague in slow speed corners. The same thing happened to my ZX6R when the the headstock bearing was on the way out. Is it possible that my GS's headstock bearing is already knackered ? Any ideas anyone ??

Anythings possible but it sounds unlikely, depends on how many wheelies the bikes done. Are you sure it's not the tyre? There were dodgy front tourances kicking about for a while that gave you a slow speed wobbley funny feeling.

It could well be the pivot bearing at the front of the telelever. If I remember corectly replacement is part of the 30000 service schedule. Not a big job if you want to do it yourself.

I guess it depends on how tough a life your GS has lead so far. If she has had plenty of off-roading, urban kerb-hopping etc then she may need a little fettling to restore her crisp steering.

It could be a simple as worn front wheel bearings. I guess you will have to put her on the centrestand and start checking everything for excessive movement at suspension and steering components.

I did a full chassis strip and rebuild of my Yamaha due to weird handling ( caused by negelect by the previous owner ) including swingarm and headrace, shock and linkages, fork strip revalve and rebuild with uprated components, wheel bearing replacement and the difference was nothing short of remarkable, handling and stopping is now better than new.

Stupid question I know but have you checked the tyre pressures?

it amazing how soggy thse can make a bike feel:D
