Hi Guys help needed, bought a nearly new Triple Black a few months
ago, and chose Vario Luggage system, my wife hates the top box with back rest etc, very uncomfortable and I am not sure its large enought for a two up two week tour of Europe at the end of the month, Have been looking at Givi Maxia on e.bay with rack etc has anyone mixed and matched like this ?
if so any pics and all advice welcome please.......

Thanks in advance KJB

I removed the backrest on my vario box. Mrs Miff found it much comfier.
I later replaced it with a givi box. Not a maxia but very similar, because it holds 2 helmets. It's much better.

Sorry. I'm on the phone.

In a misguided attempt to make the Missus's life on the pillion more comfy, I bought them backrest thingies for the Vario topbox.

She did not like them. Mainly because she has a "Ninja Turtle Style" back protector. She said that the protector did all the backrest duty necessary.

My colleauge's wife and daughter loves the pillows he had mounted, though...

Fortunately I had only test mounted mine with double adhesive tape.
They will now be sold.

(This point of view only valuable comfortwise)

It is not really a backrest though, and very few top boxes should be leant against.

I haven't seen anything that suits the bike as well - plus the fact you can almost halve the size of the thing makes it almost good enough to leave on all the time.

Do you have the matching side panniers - or are you attempting to get all your kit in a top box?

Hi have side panniers, dont have a problem with them, wanted a Givi to match
them and look ok, hence hoping someone had gone that route before
and had Pics or experience......

tks

Hi I have a maxia top box with vario panniers been using them together for the last 2 years.
A very good combo I like the ability to leave 2 crash hats in the top box and when using a hotel the panniers unclip and I use them as suitcases also I think the bike looks less cluttered when panniers are removed so I would say go for it especially as givi now do a fixing kit for the Gs I had to make my own adaptor to mount the givi plate

The Maxia is a pretty versatile box .....

Impressed that for sale !!!!!!!

Hi
I bought my secondhand GS with a full set of BMW varios. Struggled to fit one helmet, satnav, gloves and road map into topbox.
Sold the topbox on here, and got more than enough to buy a secondhand Givi Maxia on ebay, which comfortably holds two helmets, gloves and assorted clutter.
BMW topbox looks neat, and saves having an extra key on the keyring, but is much too small to be of any use.

For me, the Vario top case is the perfect size. Looks in proportion with the bike and big enough for my needs. I can't see the point of carrying around anything twice the size, just to avoid carrying a helmet occasionally.

That is my take - but others have different needs.

Bought my bike with vario panniers and later bought the top box. Found it to be useless especially when 2 up. Bought a new 52ltr Trekker with back pad - quite an improvement.
