Vario panniers lids

How well do vario pannier lids normally fit? When I close the left hand case if closes easily (gentle push before the latches click), the right hand one won't close unless I physically lift the lid into place. Almost as thought the hinges aren't lined up properly. Is this normal for these cases?

Don't want to get the dealer to look at them if they are all like it but I think they should be a better fit for over 600 quid a pair.

They are only 6 weeks old but doesn't bode well for longevity or water resistance.

One of your lids closes easily.

The other apparently doesn't, you being forced to lift it shut, the hinges not working or the lid / case being significantly out of alignment. This implies some sort of extra effort being required on behalf of the owner; surprising for what is not much other than a glorified plastic suitcase.

Which do you think is correct and normal? Do you think that all of BMW's pannier lids work this way, one being easy to close, the other not?

If your answer to any of the questions above is 'No' you are probably a long way to answering your own question.

What to do now:

Look again at the troublesome lid. Is there any obvious impediment to its smooth operation? If so, can you mend it yourself?

Sorry, your starting to lose me here. I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the box.

Fair point about something preventing it shutting, no there isn't.

Hi. I have had this problem occasionally myself. In my case (b'dum tish) the rubber seal has been squashed at the bottom of the lid near the hinges. It's easy to see if it has and can be replaced easily or cajoled to fit again.

In answer to your question - Yes

In my case (pun intended) it is the right hand one that requires 'a bit of fiddling with' to close. Will probably mention next time the bike goes in for anything. But to be fair you shouldn't have to on something that is as expensive as these things are - although having seen some of the other owners experiences on here I suppose I should feel privileged that this is (so far) the worst thing I have to complain about, except the crap heated grips of course

In the grand scheme of things a sticky pannier lid isn't really an issue regardless of how much they (or the bike they are attached to) cost

The bike and all its ancillary extras (up to and including its vario-panniers) are a premium priced product. Nobody should be forced to:
