Hope somebody can shed some light on the panniers sticking on expansion , I recently picked up a set 2nd hand for a forthcoming trip and find one pannier difficult to expand via the internal handle. Hope someone can advise what to do .

Many thanks

Hey,

Yes I have had the same issue. It seems to be quite common that they expand our change with age.

I have cleaned mine extensively without much luck.

There are two things you could do. They are modular, do you could buy the parts that aren't working anymore, bit that's an expensive fix. I've seen a post somewhere if a person cutting the corners in a way that as you compress the us a slit that lets the plastic fold into itself a bit. It's not very pretty but could work if you need the expansion.

My topbox has pretty much lost that functionality as I use it all the time. However my panniers which I use less are still ok.
It's a stage, but I'm curious if anyone has any ideas

clean it , inspect it , lube it ,operate it , watch it ,opening and closing , then when you have worked out why it is sticking ...work out a fix.

Did this already before posting , thanks though for taking the time to post

Not seen the vid, but have had two sets of varios - 2006 and 2015.
First make sure they are very clean on the outside - wash them in the expanded position.
Second think about using a silicone spray at the points of contact and work it back and fro.
Third, think about the mounting lugs and any small adjustment you can make during use eg my right fits on the bike easily opens close expand etc. My left fits on quite happily but can be a bit tricky to close so I "lift" ie upward pressure as I open.
You could try packing out the slots using insulation foam as this will deform but also slightly change the angles of how it fits together.
HTH.

Check the timing of the cams & lubricate with silicone spray

The cam timing is critical - one notch out on any of the cams, and there a bugger to expand

Cheers Santa,I've checked the cams and all good thanks for the heads up

Cheers lads for all the replies and advice. I'll use them later in August for a trip and then they'll probably won't see the light of day till next year. I'm planning to go the cheap skate route for inner bags and use Lidl bags, however I've customised mine at considerable personal time and expense.

I assume thats a zoomed in close-up of the original logo as it seems a bit fuzzy?
Do they cost at least £150 each?
Are they handed or universal, and is there a top box version - asking for a friend.
