The Varios are fine - I leave them on the bike all the time, fully expanded and add a large BMW roll bag on the back seat for extra capacity or the BMW small soft bag on the rear rack when touring two up. I use the BMW inner bags and carry them up to the hotel room, why lug the panniers?, doesn't make sense. One loses a little space because of the inner bags but you can still stuff a few things into the little gap behind the bag on the exhaust side.
